Not the best way to see the numbers officially released.

Glad to see Hardingham and Colyer, but surprised not to see Howlett and Marigliani. Looks like we're pushing hard for the win. Very surprised to see Fletch.

IMO, the three emergencies will be Bock, Colyer and Hardingham, but I hope the last two play.

No Neagle, Dempsey or Hurley.

Very interested to see how the forward line shapes up.

Also don't forget Ryder is in doubt as his partner is expected to give birth soon.

I really want Colyer to play!

Both have named a pretty good squads, their major omissions being Cox, Swift, Brown, Spangher, McKenzie. They're missing:

1*Mitch Brown
8*Beau Waters
14*Koby Stevens
15*Tom Swift
16*Eric MacKenzie
19*Tim Houlihan
20*Dean Cox*(Vice Captain)
22*Ryan Neates
30*Matthew Spangher
35*Patrick McGinnity
44*Gerrick Weedon
Rookies:
36*Callum Wilson
39*Lewis Broome
41*Andrew Strijk
43*Ashton Hams
45*Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls
48*Adam Cockie

Our major omissions Stanton, Hurley, Hille, Neagle, Dempsey, perhaps Gumbleton and I have a funny feeling Ryder wont go over. We will be without:

Jay Neagle
Scott Gumbleton
Brent Stanton
Courtenay Dempsey
Jake Carlisle
David Hille
Michael Hurley
*David Myers
Anthony Long
Jason Laycock
Tyson Slattery
Rookies:
John Williams
Taite Silverlock
Ben Howlett
Stewart Crameri
Michael Quinn
Marcus Marigliani

Why no Dempsey?

well so much for getting a chance to look at our new look forwardline.

Hurley, Neagle, Gumbleton, Hille and Laycock all expected to see at as key forwards this season missing.

My guess:

Monfries Still Zaharakis/Reimers
Colyer/Jetta Williams Davey

one thing it shouldnt be is slow.

If Ryder plays, Id expect Bellchambers to shoulder a lot of the ruck to allow Ryder to play both Ruck and forward. Daniher to be thrown forward as well.

IMO:
Gus-Daniher-Colyer
Willo-Still-Davey

Looks like you guys are going for the silverware.

Looking forward to seeing Melksham in action too.

Why no Dempsey?
I haven't heard anything about injuries so probably just part of the pre season rotations. He'll be back for round 2/nab challenge.

Well we've made the semi's 2 years in a row so maybe this means something to us hehe.

I can't believe TBD has graced this thread with his presence.

I know not an Essendon player but excited to see Ash Smith go around, played school footy with him and don't think I have seen a kid move as quick as he did on the wing

Thought there'd be more love for Melky, 1st round pick + first game usually = pandemonium.

I think this year, we've been told that our kids aren't going to play much, so there's none of the hype that Hurley, Myers or Gumbleton have had.

side should line up something like this;

Hooker Fletch Welsh
NLM Pears Houli
Dyson Watson McVeigh
Monfries Ryder Reimers
Davey M.Williams Jetta

Bellchambers Winderlich Prismall

Bench from:
H.Slat Hocking Lonergan Atkinson
Zaharakis Daniher Melksham Still
Hardingham Colyer Bock

With that side if they all go including Flecth & Ryder who I am suprised were named we are a HUGE chance!

It's our coping mechanism. We will no longer set ourselves up for a big fall.

Gumby has changed us all.:(

Forward line is looking interesting. LOl i want to see Bock dominate

Can't say I didn't expect that line up. Obviously the players left out are either injured, rested or on rotation.

Interested to see if Coyler and Hardingham play and how Still plays up forward. I hope Dyson gets a midfeild role, as does Reimers. It's obvious we've taken in a fully fit side because we've seen what has happened at Subiaco with an unfit side before. Will be great to see Williams in the forward line and I can't wait to see Hooker in the back line.

I think we really want to win this because Play at Etihad is a lot better than playing somewhere in the middle of Australia.

Dempsey is one of the ones not to risk at this stage!! i really hope he can play a full 22 this year!!

Fletch will probably pretty much rested with an 8man bench why would he want to play a lot of the game ?
! let hooker pears NLM do most of the work,

Daniher maybe be the one to be used forward!!! with Williams Still Gus Reimers Davey and Jetta..

I am flying over the match - not a bad squad, don't expect a win but hopefully some good game time against a ground we struggle at will be the big benefit on playing the match.

^wtf

I assume you've got something else tee'd up for the journey? A root maybe? I've been to Ess vs. WBD and Ess vs. Bris in the Nab Cup competition in recent years and regretted going to both ... even though I think we won both.

You regretted watching Essendon demolish the bulldogs in the nab cup 2 years ago with Scotty sinking super goals for fun? or the 1 point win last year?

Brisbane I'll give you, one of the worst games I have ever seen.

Godzke
10 Feb 2010, 18:10
Nah it was the one point. I can't remember whether I saw 2 games last preseason or two over two years. Exciting yes but so many ridiculous errors it was frustrating to watch, regardless of the result.

See even in shit matches, you're cheering your team because you know a win might see you through to the finals... in this ... you know it doesn't mean shit, and that's half the problem.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm always keen as to go to the NAB cup games after being footy starved for the best part of 6 months.

I will agree though that last years game against Brisbane was THE worst game I've ever been to. It was free though so I can't really say that I didn't get value for money.

The Doggies game was more than just about the footy that night though, it was the Black Saturday fund raiser game.:thumbsu:

Would have liked to see Longy have a run... especially with Dempsey not in the side.

Very happy to see Melksham, Still and Colyer up on the whiteboard though. Zaharakis too, big hopes for that kid this year.

Ill laugh if Bock gets a run. Hopefully its not a windy night.

Just realised that our 02, 06, 07 and 08 first round draft picks are all not playing this match. Also 05 if paddy misses due to baby. and if Melksham was to also miss for some reason...
Anyone know if big Kepler is playing? if not, then 03 is missing as well.
But gus should be playing, so 04 is there.
