Sydney Cricket Ground
2:25pm Friday February 15
"Fine in the morning, although humid. Cloud increasing, with showers
and thunderstorms developing in the afternoon or evening. Light to
moderate north to northwest winds, becoming fresh at times ahead of a
gusty southerly change late afternoon."
Combine that with the SCG having the worst drainage in the country and the Windies might not lose this. Despite the game being at their home ground, Brad Haddin and Shane Watson are missing what may be the final ODI at the SCG. Watson's omission helps them find a spot for Paine who isn't much of a lower order batsman in limited overs cricket. That spot will be taken by either Ryan Harris in a four-pronged pace attack or James Hopes. If it's Hopes, Johnson has the longest streak of games (5) so he should be the one dropping out for Harris to rotate in. Adam Voges is in the squad but given the weather he'll only play if Clarke's back seizes up again.
Doubt the Windies will be unchanged after two uncompetitive efforts, but if they played Wavell Hinds, Brendan Nash, Darren Sammy, Gavin Tonge and the 11 they've already got, they'd still be likely to lose. The top 3 of Gayle, Morton and Dowlin have 17 runs between them in 2 games, making that the obvious place to start. Having said that, Kieron Pollard leads the way with the very average figures of 63 runs and 3 wickets in 2 games so nobody could really complain if they were dropped. Looks likely they will get through at least the toss before the rain arrives so this will be relevant.

If you're a member and don't have any paint to watch dry, gates open at midday. If you've already bought tickets, http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/7519/lolpointak9.gif - but you do get your money back if they don't bowl 10 overs, half of it if they don't bowl 25. If you're not and you care, you're an idiot to even consider paying SCG prices to watch this shit, and gates still open at midday for you.

this would be a good day to experiment with the rules. i hope australia bat first and put 400+ on and that would make thing a whole lot more ebtertaining with gayle to bat in the second innings
time to give the public what they want, indeed. 2 things i'd like to see - paul reiffel slips on the greens and puts down a few overs, then comes out with his handy lower order batting. also

i reckon most people would prefer to see the women playing right now. some of these women players are quite good. they also play cricket well too ;)

If Australia don't bat first, the crowd may as well go home
Gayle to win the toss and remark "we're bowling first because I don't trust our bowlers or batters but by christ we field and carry drinks well!"
Record number of catches to be put down in an innings to follow.
Provided of course they actually get a game underway that is.

australia's winning streak or aspirations of winning every game this summer to be TERMINATED today. mainly thanks to sydney's weather... plenty of rain is needed to wash out this DISGUSTING humidity...
oh wait, they didnt win the test match in adelaide... boo hoo... our perfect summer is ruined. thanks for ruining our perfect summer you ruiners (west indies)
anyway us sydneysiders will pay for finishing australia's winning streak. we wont get any laundry done on the weekend

The Australian squad in the OP is the squad from the last game, it has the ins and outs at the bottom, but Paine and Voges aren't in the squad of 13, while Watson and Haddin still are.
Just for those who might get confused.
If the match gets underway and gets played, Australia to shit in.

Roach out too. Going to be one of the worst pace line-ups ever seen from the West Indies.

How fkn stupid is Gayle??
Something like 65-70% of teams who bat first at the SCG win - and he chooses to bowl!

It's a shame that Tonge is injured, I was looking forward to seeing him bowl. The Windies bowlers will no doubt be looking to keep things tight, and get wickets that way. Because there isn't a lot of strike power with Rampaul, Sammy and Smith.
Would love to hear which quicks Mark Nicholas wanted the Windies to bring to Australia. The best performing bowlers in domestic cricket have all been spinners, and there were very few other options - Pedro Collins, Tino Best, Nelon Pascal. None of them are better than Sammy at this stage.
I like the decision to persist with Dowlin and Simmons though. Also great to see Wavell Hinds finally back in the Windies team....
Huge stat, that one. Australia average 160 at the fall of the fourth wicket, while the Windies average 30. Wow.

Good stuff Mark Nicolas, talk about 6 "ghost bowlers" that are injured but would be in the WI side, really? who? why is this twat the face of Aussie cricket now, it's so sad.

The 2 most boring batsman ever Voges and Hopes.
McKay would be handy for Victoria right about now.

Well if Voges can't do anything today surely its time to move on from him. They better not use the "hes not an opener" excuse, should be a simple make runs or head on out.
Invigoration
12 Feb 2010, 12:34
Why the hell do they insist on bringing Voges along? Why not bring a kid along when we are dominating a series so easily and give him a taste of it in a situation like this instead of a blatant dead end like Voges

Yes they better not, as that guy at 4 has opened a few times and done a half decent job for Australia. Has Voges ever even batted before 4 for WA? ffs.

He said "Players who are back home" he was talking about the whole tour not just the one dayers. There is not 6 pace bowlers who could get in to this slack side, he was just pulling a number out of his pompus arse. There is 4 at most, including roach.
Edit: Goodbye Voges, hopefully forever.

Admittedly sunny with rain. But still.
not the type of score you want to see on the board if rain stops the innings.

i think mitch johnson bats too low at 8 in the ODI format. If he starts teeing off you want him in for 10 overs at least.
'If' he starts teeing off is a pretty big if.

12 Feb 2010, 15:50
'If' he starts teeing off is a pretty big if.
Agreed
But when he gets going he tends to keep going. i dodn't mind the idea of using him as a pinch hitter in the middle order, as long as wickets aren't tumbing everywhere
on ya bus huss
some boundaries would be nice.
really picking out the fielders rather than over or around. can barely get it outside the circle it seems.

The overs being reduced would really suit the Windies imo. The shorter the game, the better for a side so reliant on one batsman.

Rain has stopped. Inspection due at 8pm.

Would you deem that a tough chase in T20?
About to start pissing down in about 15 minutes anyway by the looks of it.
150? they should only be chasing around 115 shouldn't they?
I can confirm it's already raining where I am. Which isn't far from the (SC)G

Anyone know what happens with bets if the match is a washout? Money back?
wiki on duckworth lewis - asdfff (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duckworth_Lewis)
it uses resources in hand to compress a match, if you like. simply chopping off half the score would in theory make the task too easy for WI as they now have all their wickets in hand to chase half the total, still at the same run-rate. it's probably the fairest way we've had so far of finishing odi matches.
