View Full Version : TV The White Room
WTF was that crap ?
It was like Spicks & Specks on steroids.I only saw bits and pieces but it looked woeful.Having two hosts seemed odd and they managed to drag it out for an hour
Even worse is 4 of the panelists are apparently on every week.Only Fifi and the blond guy [from Homo and Away ?] were guests.
Two weeks and it'll be gone or shortened to 30 minutes.

I saw Fifi Box and assumed it was awful.

Terrible show... but props for the man-o-man segment and showing Shane 'Kenny' Jacobson on it.
LOL, was always going to be bad... not just bad, but Aussie television bad.
I was tempted to have a quick squiz, purely out of car crash type curiosity, very glad I didn't.

812k viewers and will likely drop off in the coming weeks.
Expect this one to be "boned" pretty soon.

It's almost like 7, 9 and 10 are trying to out-crap each other.

I watched a bit of it. I actually liked the brief clips from the 80s, but the rest of it (i.e. any time any of The White Room team are on) was absolutely horrible.
I don't really get the formula of having 8 morons who I assume they think will appeal to the masses. I know the masses are pretty stupid but these kinds of shows nearly always fail whereas a show like Spicks & Specks gets the ratings that any mainstream channel would be happy with.
The White Room's premise (lamed down, which isn't too hard) + replacing the 8 uber cringeworthy, lame, incredibly unfunny with 8 people who have some sense of being subtle/semi-amusing and that show would be a winner.
We have to put up with one of the hosts on morning radio
its awful.

Where they the 2 guys who hosted 'Crud' on MMM? Not sure they got the meaning behind coming up with an ironic name.

That's them.Tony was the one who did the 'Guido' character for years.

It was the people on it who dumbed it down. If it was on the ABC with Peter Berner as host it would actually be a pretty good show. Unfortunately, 7, 9 or 10 don't know how to do things intelligently.

I was asked what I did not like about it in another thread.
Apart from the two lame arsed, totally humourless, stilted and scripted hosts, the lame arsed, totally humourless, stilted and scripted "ad lib" observations on every picture, film clip or "punchline by the incredibly "non-celebrity" celebrity teams, the flagrant cost saving format which simply uses bargain basement regurgitated clips from the tape library, the forced, head back, horse mouthed guffaws of everybody after these said lame arsed "observations" and the extremely low rent comments and questions from the hosts (?) I found it really fake, plastic and the sort of program which can actually bankrupt a network.
The dancers, not to mention the context they appeared in, were as low rent as the rest of the show and did I mention it was cheap, nasty, unfunny and not even worthy of "car crash" watchability standard.
I tried to sum it up but there really are no suitable words in the dictionary.

I saw it. I like the idea, but the execution was awful.
The problem is the following:-
1. Having two hosts. Whenever you have two hosts, it means that neither is adequate enough to host the show alone.
2. I am getting sick of these shows (Talking About My Generation, Spicks & Specks etc) where the show is as much a vehicle for lame stand-ups to make jokes which only the other people on the show find funny. I thnk it would be better if it had actual contestants (you could have one celeb to help each contestant), but they actually have prizes. I am interested to see how an average Joe or Josephnine's TV knowledge is. Also, I could apply to be on it, and win big prizes, since I am a TV buff. But the networks don't wanna shell out for prizes, so they get celebrities on instead.
3. It should be reduced to half-an-hour, and strictly be a "TV-trivia type" show. I often attend a trivia night called "Flipside Music/Sports Trivia", where they play clips of TV shows, movies and songs, and you have to guess as many as possible. I think a show like this would be more fun on TV than "The White Room's" current incarnation.

Nah, game shows are shit, mainly because of the contestants.
Two weeks and it'll be gone or shortened to 30 minutes.
Is there a prize for getting the prediction correct ?
