I thought his commentary was very good and some of the points he made were excellent. Much better than the other blokes in the box.
Just thought i would ask you guys what you thought of his commentary :P:thumbsu:

He's a super impressive commentator, and isn't afraid to say what he thinks, which is a good thing in a commentator, so long as it isn't anything stupid like "Buddy is useless" or whatever. He says when the umpire makes a bad call, he makes it known that he dislikes certain rules, and it's great insight into a player, and specificall full forward's mind in the current way the game is heading.

Better than Walls.

I'll leave it at that for the moment.

Made some good points throughout the night, but also made a few that weren't great. Naturally this happens to everyone and he is new so he has lots of scope to improve.

Needs to relax and work on his tonality at times, but this will also come with time and experience too.

As someone said he speak his mind, and he has always been a straight shooter so he definitely beats some of the talking heads there.

He was reasonable and will get better will time, but honestly he was a much maligned player and this will carry over to his commentating. It will probably take a few years before the majority of oppositions supporters are psychologically capable of rating him just on his commentary merits and not viewing him as that gun forward they loved to hate.

Loved his comment about the Hawthorn players being up themselves last year. Said he didn't necessarily mean Buddy. :D
He didn't have to add his name to the convo, but he did; subtly suggesting that Buddy was one of them.

Did well last night, hopefully he continues to stay on because his insight is first class.

I just find him to be to much of a stiff.

You have to be truly exceptional - like Buckley - as a commentator to overcome that.

He was suprisingly honest (and quite chatty)

Collingwood's gain is the viewing public's loss.

Enjoyed his commentary just hope he doesn't barrack or be bias when commentating Essendon matches. I also liked Tom Harley and Richos comments on Friday night.

Yeah, Essendon bias could suck.
Really surprised by Lloydies football brain, he doesn't sound intelligent (sounds like he just ate a mars bar and his saliva is all claggy) but he sounds like he has a coaches brain.

As has been said already, Lloyd is great to listen to as he has that technical knowledge that some of the other flops definately don't (I'm looking at you McAvaney).

It was also great to hear him speaking his mind. I think he will not be too bias when commentating Essendon games. But the big test for me will be when he commentates a West Coast game. If he starts going on about NicNat like the rat McAvaney and Commeti did, I will be very dissapointed.

Bucks was alright as commentator, but he had a tendency to say stupid things like "You feel Fremantle need a goal here to keep the pressure on", when Fremantle were down by 8 points or something.

Also I loved Lloyd's reaction when they said "It looks like Sewell has recovered from the nock from Lloyd last here".. He just let it go and continued calling the game. Honestly, that was a stupid thing for them to say to him...

Yeah I didn't like Buckley initially when he started commentating but he really grew into the role. My thoughts of Lloyd are similar. Seems a bit ackward and I always got that impression of him watching him on TV (on and off the field). Hopefully he grows into the role.

i remember Mark Waugh being a shocker when he first started, but hes alright now,, hehe! hes no Flemo but hes decent! takes some guys a while to relax into it!!

in relation to the earlier comment involving walls, in an essendon fans eyes Lloydy could pretend he was a 2year old on the mic to and still be a commentator than Walls!

I reckon Lloydy sounds a bit "dumb" (pitch, intonation, speed of delivery - just something with his voice) to put it bluntly; however, I must say his commentary is refreshingly insightful, succinct, babble-free, even-handed and honest - must be those blue-blood genes he inherited from his old man. Seriously, I'm really looking forward to his expert commentary - certainly will be better than Voss (woeful), Blight (tangential), Matthews (predictable), Buckley (good) and Walls (Walls obvious bias is his biggest strength if you're a Carlton supporter but obviously it grates with most listeners): reckon Lloydy will quickly make his mark as one of the better expert commentators.

I can say from experience that intonation while public speaking comes from practise, so I'm sure that'll be smoothed out to some extent.

As for the bold, that's the biggest understatement of the century.

I think it has already. I thought he was really good.

For a while in the first half I was wondering who the other bloke commentating was because he was speaking to quickly to be ol' monotone Lloydy. But it was him. Also wasn't afraid to shoot down the more experienced Christian when he suggested that ridiculous marking/high contact rule...

I was impressed, although it helped he had nothing but nice things to say about the Hawks.. It could of been overcompensating, or more likely he just couldnt think of anything good to say about Richmond...

Enjoyed his commentary just hope he doesn't barrack or be bias when commentating Essendon matches.

He shouldnt be scheduled to do them. He is not long enough out of the game. You cant expect anyone not to show bias when they are so fresh off the field, he will simply know more about Essendon than whoever their opponent will be and its unavoidable.

Just like Walls shouldnt commentate Ess or Carl games, or any for that matter.

Walls lost me ages ago. I clearly remember him saying something along the lines of "I'm a fan of Essendon" yet his commentary has always been anti-Essendon.

Best example I can remember recently was the rnd 22 game vs. Hawthorn ... after Lloyd took out Sewell he described Sewell as one of Hawthorn's "spirtual players". Now that may very well be true, but the tone which he delivered it in was as if he just found out his son had died. Was ridiculous how much empathy he displayed.

A mate and myself have had the theory for over a year that Blight goes hard on the gear...I don't see any evidence which debunks this theory

Always thought Lloyd was a little boring and was surprised he had quickly developed a media career with Ch 10 and SEN, obviously someone thinks he has a future. Anyone would be better than Walls.

If he is half as good as Hird, he'll be doing well.
