View Full Version : TV Father Ted
I don't think I could find a thread on this so I thought I'd start one.
Just got through the box set after years of forgetting how good this show was. Very underrated.
The performances of both Father Dougal and Father Jack make the show for me. Father Ted is also a great 'straight man'.

Great show, the camp priest character played by Graham Norton was piss funny.
I still remember the shock when I found out 'Ted' died.
I loved how Dougal somehow became a priest despite not believing and/or understanding most of the aspects of Christianity.
Still reckon the Eurovision-type clip of My Lovely Horse is one of my favourite comedy scenes ever. The sheer absurdity of it never fails to make me laugh.
Of course, The Divine Comedy, who sang that song, went on to be even more awesome as The Duckworth-Lewis Method just last year.

<3 Neil Hannon. Divine Comedy did the theme song too (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPPi58K6wZs), for those that don't know
The few shows I've seen have made me laugh. A lot. Is it still on ABC2?

Even more sad is it was the day after they filmed the final episode

That episode was on ABC2 last friday night.
My favourite episode is where they go to the mainland and Ted and Dougal see Richard Wilson from 'One Foot in The Grave' and Ted goes up to him and says "I don't BELIEVE IT !!!".Wilson then attacks Ted because he's sick of people saying that line to him :D
Mrs Doyle and her friend get locked up after fighting because they both want to pay the cheque at the cafe.

The eurovision episode has to be one of the best comedy episodes of any show. Absolute cracker.

Well done Jabso.
Some English friends put me onto this and we've given away the three discs we had purchased due to the acquisition of the boxed set.
Just brilliant, brilliant comedy.
Is it too wanky to throw in a quote or two?
"It's Chris...he's fine!"

Still love 'kicking Bishop Brennan up the arse'
Has me in hysterics every time. :D
Seriously love this show, very underrated down here but it up there with the best the British have done.

Great show! Keep forgetting that it is on ABC2. I love the Eurovision episode but also remember a good one where Dougal had to keep a milk-cart above about 2 mile an hour :D Think it was called Speed 3.

Good call - extremely underrated.
It's not British it's Irish.
I love this part:
Father Jack: I LOVE MY BRICK
*seconds later he throws it at Ted*
Father Jack: ARRGHH FECK IT! FED UP WITH *brriiiiiiiiick*
The humour is quite reminiscent of The Simpsons for some reason, very very underrated.

I resisted it for some time because I mistakenly thought it was going to be a tame religious comedy.
Awesome show, and although I've watched them all through a number of times, I still look back on that one moment in the first episode that really sucked me in and made me laugh...I don't know if there's a finer moment in the rest of the series (although I'm sure you all will have your contenders.
they keep it in a pram.
The spiderbaby scene rocks so much.
Still wouldn't take it over Black Books but a really really good show was Father Ted.

It's not British it's Irish.
Its was actually made by a British company and shown first on British TV.
One of the funniest shows ever, sadly the lead bloke died very young.
