A testament to hard work, persistence and making the most of your talent. Has had to endure more than most sportsmen his age, and to his credit has shrugged off the criticism and battled through serious injuries to be one of our most important players.

A genuinely humble guy too, who cops a lot of undeserved criticism.

Showed a lot of haters and childish critics were poor judges and vindictive characters.

Im not so sure about that one, but he was a deserved winner of the award.

Thoroughly deserved. Sure, he carried on like a bit of a dick throughout the Summer, however, he was clearly the most consistent performer.

Well done Watto.

Love the way he goes about his cricket.

Some people would have given up after his injuries but he stuck at it. Fixed a few things in his action and now is getting some reward.

I think it just means so much to him and he's so passionate that he gets carried away from time to time.

Sensational cricketer though - if he stays fit, he'll be the lynchpin of our side for the next 4-6 years.

Props to Punter for backing him as well ;)

Love a person who sticks it up others.

He's done well has Watson, our most important player.

Everyone who says "the way he carries on" has zero examples except the Gayle thing. Pretty sad really.

There's a perception that Watson thinks too highly of himself, not unlike Michael Bingle, hence the scorn that comes his way. Having said that, he was by far and away the most consistent performer over the summer and the medal was truly deserved.

Well done and good on him, he just needs to learn to walk past mirrors instead of stopping at them and admiring what he sees.

Where was the media backlash when mohammed Amer followed through so unnecessarily and blew kisses to Watson?

This is what annoys me about international cricket its Aus vs rest of the world. Like the first test in Cardiff against England, could you imagine if ponting/australia used those stall tatcis, hell the other 9 nations would want us thrown out, upteen articles on cric info and every non aus supporter calling us cheats.

Nobody likes it; but I think he's making the point that we seem to be judged a lot more harshly than other sides.

It's the kind of thing done all the time by other players and never made an issue of. You only raise it because you saw Watson do it. Really low.

ive seen non australian players do worse and get praise for standing up to the big bad Aussies where as if it was the other way round and our players are publicly shamed - pretty pathetic really

Congats to Watto for sticking it up em! :D:D:D:D

Yep. When some players from other countries act like tools (not mentioning any names of course, Harbhajan Singh) they are considered gutsy warriors. When Australian players do it they are considered egotistical tools. The double standards are embarrassing.

The talent has always been there with Watson, he just needed a decent run with injuries to become a prominent figure in the side.

that your post was pathetic.

Unfortunately, it wasn't. It was completely true. You criticise Watson for an action you've never commented on from plenty of other players.

Really sad.

+1

That Gayle thing pissed me off. The Windies had been giving it to him when he was batting (which is also fine). He celebrated the biggest wicket of the innings like the rest of the team.

All great fast bowlers like to send off the yappers.. Jesus remember Merv? Lillee? Warnie? McGrath?
You dont become a feared bowler by being a mouse. I'm not saying Watson is a feared bowler, but he did nothing wrong.

All that incident proved to me was that Gayle is a flake who cant take what he gives.
