31yo Aussie director Patrick hughes debut feature film 'Red Hill' Modern day western set in High Country Victoria.

Excited about this! Wowing audiences at the 60th Berlin film Festival! Trailer looks sick, it's got Ryan Kwanten from True blood and Steve Bisley from Mad Max.

**** me, between that and Animal Kingdom (trailer below) thats two Aussie films i'm actually really looking forward to seeing! Haven't said that before.

Actually speaking of Aussie films, i rented 'Rogue' the other week, the Monster Croc movie from Greg McLean and i was actually really impressed by it. I understand hardly anyone saw it but i was really taken by the slowly built tension, the amazing cinematography and the effects of the actual croc - in particular the cave sequence - which were better than anything i've seen of Hollywood lately. Also good to see Sam Worthington without the poncy U.S accent.

Heres Animal Kingdom. Doesn't give much away but I reckon its a pretty damn effective trailer:thumbsu:

I randomly came across it on Foxtel a little while ago, thinking it was just going to be another dumb "dangerous wild animal" movie worthy of some cheap laughs, but it's actually pretty good. Definitely underrated/underseen. The cave sequence was indeed a highlight.

Caught this last night at Jam Factory, loved it! Action packed with some good twists. 8.5/10

Cinema photography was brilliant and the score was very powerful. What a year for Australian films! Do yourself a favour and see Red Hill, great fun!

Saw it tonight. Was OK, kind of seemed it couldn't decide if it was a serious thriller or an action movie. Was entertaining though.

3/5

watched it about a week ago and thought the story had real potential. Was a good movie but was a little weak in the way in played out. Could have been much better

Good aussie film though

Was looking forward to Red Hill, saw it last night and thought it was awful. I thought it was going to be a good thriller/drama, but it turned out to be a cheap action/western with a very flimsy story.

I don't know why they bothered, Australian films won't have the budget to make a movie like this. The acting and script were cringe worthy at times - am I the only one sick of seeing the same average actors in every australian movie? We need to find some fresh talent.

Animal Kingdom, on the other hand, was excellent!

Copping a serious hiding at the box office, tanking big time:

I haven't seen it but if it is the 'Oz answer to NCFOM' as the OP is claiming then I wouldn't be keen to see it as it's already been done before.

I haven't seem Ryan Kwanten in True Blood, but from what I remember of him on Neighbours I can't imagine any movie with him in the lead being good.

Doesn't help that BR rips are out on torrents and have been for a few weeks. Didn't mind the movie, but some of the ham acting was a bit much.

Clearly didnt recognise him from Neighbours as he was in Home and Away. He was actually the best thing in the movie, well acted.

Acting was ok, just eh storyline fell really flat. Good idea for a movie, just didnt go all the way.

It bombs at the movies because all aussie movies bomb at the movies.

One thing, if someone has any idea: what was the significance of the panther? seemed a left-field storyline...

TO REVEAL--> It represents different things for different people - but to me personally it's 'the past mistakes coming back to haunt us'. It refers back to the colonial times when settlers would bring exotic cargo such as animals (panthers) - the settlers would take over the natives land and claim it as their own.

To some people the panther simply represents 'death' coming to the town. To others it's Jimmy's spirit guide. It has many different meanings for many different people.

Hope that helps.

This was filmed in the town where my family is from, would really like to see it one day, but I don't think it's showing in QLD cinemas.

Love that song.

Steve"goose"Bisley is always worth watching.

Apart from Lewis, Kwanten and Bisley, all of the men in the film are wimp's.

Good Australian Western. 7/10
