Not keen on any of those names, especially Pride. Stallions is probably the best of them, even though I was never a fan of Marconi back in the old NSL days.
I've gone for Wolves with a two-blue colour scheme.

Don't mind Stallions as for the other proposed names... meh :thumbsd:
They are all terrible but if i had to chose i'd say Stallions is probably best.

I went Wolves with two blues. Fourth from the right for the primary and third from the right for the secondary.

Pride as bad as Melb A league sides Victory & Heart think heart the worst but pride why not dignity, justice or respect just as rubbish
Stallions = Marconi in west sydney always has always will
Rangers = blue nose glasgow mob they mocked celtic as a name this is far worse
Giants = bad but there are are some big folk out there & it may be an obesity hot spot so may fit
hope the 5th option is better seems that that gibberer hinds may be on the money with the whatevers
most marketing contrived nick names are rubbish pick ya colours then let some one make a connection or pick a local factor & as the area is massive may be hard, wolves fits with western but no real connection, dingo's better, emu's plenty out on the cumberland plain back in the day, workers plenty out there, wombats, explorers as in crossing the sand stone curtain it's rubbish but hey, kooka's, parrots, lorikeets both give a colour range on guernsey, western cockies, goanna's, red backs though unlikely to have a red back on guernsey due to swans, black or brown snakes, billabongs so it can be shortened to western bongs, Wedge tails,
Anything but those 4
I went wolves on the website. If enough people here who are a fan of that name do the same, they might take notice.
The options all suck. Stallions is the only one close to being good, and it has baggage.
Giants?? FFS.
Pride?? This is the AFL, not some two bit contrived A-Leage knock off.

Out of those 4, I dont mind Rangers. However I also suggested Wolves on the website and had predominately blue as the colours. THIS TEAM MUST BE BLUE. I dont mind Pioneers either which I saw someone suggest, but I guess with a mascot its more about making sure its not horrible rather making sure its good...See Gazza the life saver.

Stallions is a reasonable name. The rest are just puncy "modern" names. You can't expect a much better name than "Stallions" in this era of crappy names.
"Wolves" would have been OK, but it's probably a good think that's it's not on that list, because that would have split the proper-nickname vote between "Wolves" and "Stallions".
They might well end up just going with the name that gets the most votes, in which case, a write-in option won't win. So people who want "wolves" should probably consider that if they don't vote for "Stallions", they'll probably end up with "Giants" or "Rangers".

I think They are going for the whole blue mountain rangers thing, which was always on the card.
However, there were no mountain rangers in the blue mountains so its culturally irrelevant anyway. Just anothe plastic modern foreign unmarketable concept.

But another problem is that WS could pull a GC. If everyone votes for Stallions, there is nothign stopping the club deciding that they can't use it because of the Marconi connection (which is what the CG did with the frontrunning Sharks mascot).
In such a scenario it woudl be good to have Wolves as another popualr option.
The club is dangerously close to makign a horrible decision, but left the door open for hope. Its all in how that door is used.

I'd be surprised if a state league soccer club could prevent them from using the name they want. The Southport Sharks are a different example, since they're an influential Aussie Rules club, with the ear of the AFL.
Remember that there was a state league soccer club called the Brisbane Lions when the Bears merged with Fitzroy.

I didn;t say it was a logical excuse. The southport sharks isn't a logical excuse as it would not have been the slightest bit divisive (hence why it was so popular in the first place).
But it dosn't mean they won't do it. And when you consider that Marconi is a western sydney football club, you'd better believe that there will be issues with this. It might be doable, but GWS will probably rather avoid an avoidable confrontation.

Even so, if the "Giants", "Rovers" or "Pride" wins the vote, the club will go with that name. If "Stallions" wins, they'll either go with it, or decide it's too politically difficult and reconsider.
Either way, you need "Stallions" to win the vote.

Pride is dumb, given the AFL already has the Lions as well. Giants and Rangers I don't mind, but I still prefer Pioneers, then Stallions and then Wolves over the lot.

You can't compare the effects of an established footy culture with cleer and deep battle lines with that of an unestablihsed footy culture where such hatred amoungst teams simply do not exist.
The negative effects of a having a shark mascot would have been negligable in getting the QAFL fans on board for this reason, as well as having the benefits of a popular mascot for those who have none.
The SANFL was viewed as a competitor to the VFL. The QAFL is and always has been viewed as a state league.

Thankyou for cheapening the entire league.
The league is already a joke as it is.
Look at the rigged draw.
The priority draft picks.
The continuous rule changes.
Draft concessions to the new teams etc. etc.
At least with 'Pride' as a name, they fit in with the other expansion team jokes like the Dockers, Power and Lifeguards:D

I've gone for Wolves with a two-blue colour scheme.
Was actually thinking that myself. Went for Wolves with the darker blue as Primary, light blue secondry with white writing.

Royal Blue & Black - like East Perth.
But I bet the winning name will be sadly be one of the 4 nominated names sadly. The people who came up with those 4 i assume were some marketing cretins who got paid thousands.

Wolves seems to be the unanimous public vote it seems. :D
They'll probably still persist with 1 of the 4 names anyway. Public has no say really, i don't know why they gave us the option to give our thoughts.

Pride is the worst of the lot. If you're going to go for an abstract quality type of name, I think Westside Magic sounds better than Pride.

Rolls off the tongue, one syllable, isn't overused, we lack canine mascots in the competition with only the Bulldogs as competition, lends itself to darker colours, contrasting with the lighter colours of the Swans nicely.

Pride sounds like victory and heart and glory. A-League names are horrible names for a team!!!!!!

How is Giants a "modern name"? The New York/San Francisco Giants of the baseball persuasion have been called such since 1885. The other Giants since 1925.

Yep im in the wolf pack. I think that this would also tie in nicely with use of the colour (tone) grey which is very diverse and could go with a blue, a green, a yellow or just about anything.

Agree with you GandF, Wolves definitely gets my vote. Would look great as a mascot for GWS.
Please none of the 4 names.... Pride? wtf? :eek: What about Western Sydney Mischief? :D
