Apologies if there is another thread. I could not see one when I searched.
I watched this on the weekend. It was virtually unwatchable. Dreadful dialogue, pretentious, gratuitous rubbish from Lars von Trier.
I know it is avant garde and I had prepared myself, but it was almost B grade horror shock value at times.
I really dislike Charlotte Gainsbourg, I'm not sure why, but I haven't liked her in anything I've seen. I'm not a fan of her mother (Jane Birkin) either.
As for the film, totally agree.

I thought the prologue was bordering on genius.
The first half showed promise , then the second half became a bad extreme horror film. The narrative was poor and didn't link to the reveals , making them seem absurd.

I agree with you about the prologue. It was beautifully shot. All downhill from there though.
This movie is one total mind ****.
Some of the shit that happens in that film, wow.

I am a Von Trier fan, but this is movie is just too over the top.
Definitely unwatchable. Horrific really, and I can stand a fair bit

The woman's voice is annoying as ****, had to stop watching it because it was so unbearable to listen to.

After the Dogville debacle, haven't been able to watch a Lars Trier film.
One day I'm gonna watch the AntiChrist and Inland Empire double feature.
Just have to do something really bad to punish myself to such an extreme....
poor film.
The horror really didn't shock me, or make me cringe, it was more like 'ok WTF?'
its just a boring, disjointed, weird attempt at being artsy, but really it's just another exploitation film using horror/sadism/sex

Agree with most of you here..prologue was well done and it did link in a bit towards the end as the madness unravelled... but overall it was underwhelming to say the least.
There was one (obvious) scene which made me flinch but the rest was ho-hum.

Did not rate it at all, pure drivel even though it is beautifully shot at times. Can also see why critics sometimes label Von Trier a misogynist after seeing the film.

Didnt mind it, but it was borderline unwatchable. If that makes sense. I agree that the first half was quite good but it fell away to a near snuff film.
Agree with most here. Had its moments but overall a pretty shit film and I really didn't see the point of the graphic genital mutilation.
