Ian Harvey left Melbourne today for the West Indies, not only to play for (carry drinks for...) Australia, but also to talk to David Hookes about his cricketing future in Victoria.

I just can't shake the feeling that Harvey is no longer a required player. Hookes clearly has no love for him, or his game. Last year he declared that County Cricket has "ruined him", and if Shane Watson comes to Victoria to play...

That would leave Jon Moss (Bill Lawry medallist 2002/3), Shane Watson and Ian Harvey fighting for the all-rounders spot (or 2 spots, if we continue to line up like we did this year).

All this leads me to believe we might just see Harvs underperforming for anohter side in 03/04.

The Vic administration should be doing everything in their power to keep Ian Harvey in the state. Watson still hasn't fully proven himself IMO whereas Harvey has, he can do anything in both forms of the game and is a bit of a crowd puller too.

Get your act together Bushrangers !!!

Watson is staying in Tassie.

Victoria are crazy if they let him go, especially with his current form for Australia.

Watson choose to stay for 2 reasons. One was he originally had an option year on his contract has decided to see the contract through. The second was to ensure he plays first class cricket.

A bit of face saving in Watson's "decision" to stay if you ask me.

He still has a year to run on his contract and Tassie wouldn't release him. There was no other option.

I bet it will be a different decision come the end of next season ;)

In some ways it may not hurt him either because if he has another good season he'll be worth more money.
