Gideon Haigh is talking of potential dropped catches. I know Kamran Akmal was left out of the Hobart test, but the catches he dropped to the spinner in Sydney were virtually impossible to fake, those were reflex soft hands catches in the gloves, and he could not intend to drop those, without dropping every second delivery that beat the bat when he was keeping to the spinners. Just cant happen. Brain wont process that info. Other catches, sure, can drop those on purpose.

Meanwhile, Shoaib Akhtar has been left out of Pakistan's 30-member preliminary squad for the World Twenty20 championship in the Caribbean. Akhtar has not played an international since May, but is confident of returning and harbours hopes of becoming captain.

Gold.

Butt is an absolute idiot. Can not handle the media with one ounce of class.

:thumbsu: Spot on, every keeper in the world has had one of those days. As mentioned Ijaz Butt is a nuff nuff who likes getting his name in the paper.

Waste of time reading anything about it, Gideon Haigh should no better than to muck rake this.

Even the field placings on that final day were just mind blowing. How Yousuf did that still stuns me. I suppose where there's smoke..........

The field placings were retarded.

The dropped catches in isolation, everybody has days like that.

Maybe I'm a bit too naive, but Yousef doesn't strike me as the type who'd even consider losing a game for profit... but then again, neither did Cronje.

Gold.

You never know he might have a chance - it seems every current player seems to have captained Pakistan at one time.If he can string 3 games together he might get the captaincy for a month. ;)

a man who changes his name for his religion strikes me as the sort of person who wouldn't be tempted by money

i too may be naive though

there can be other methods of motivation other than money

family safety being one of them

Its not the dropped catches that raise eyebrows imo, it was some of those captaincy decisions.

Australia gifted 100 free runs with fielders spread on the boundary when they had their back to the absolute wall at the start of day 5.

someone started a thread on the final day of the test, or just after the finish, saying the fix was in. Anyone know how to parse the search function, dont think any of the terms were unique, suppose "betting" may only show up a dozen times on this forum, will give it a go.

People certainly made jokes at the time it happened, who knows if it's true? If there are fixes then it has to be Mohammad Yousuf. While Akmal can be excused for the drop catches due to sheer incompetence, the field placings are a little harder to explain, to say the least

It would have been good if an Australian journalist asked Yousuf point blank what he was trying to achieve with those field placings right after that Sydney Test. He wasn't pressing for the win, surely.
