Who needs Neon Leon when you've got Snoop Sampi Samp?

great 2nd goal off the left boot.

He's doing real well, booting 2 or 3 each week. He's still not as good as Matera putting pressure on the oposition defenders when they have the ball, but he's certainly getting there.

My missus reckons he looks good with his new curls. :)

What's in store for next week - buzzcut? Mohawk? Big "S" shaved into the back?

May not be as good as Matera, but the past couple of weeks, playing better than Matera.

Sampi will be better than Matera in time to come.

We're finally seeing why he was taken at #6 in the best draft ever. Really classy, i hope he can be moved into the midfield in the future as his talents are really being wasted in a forward pocket.

Geez, doubt that. Im a huge Sampi fan and love the new do :D and he is playing fantastic footy this year, really showing why we took him at 6.

But give some respect to Fido. He is easily the best goal sneak the club has ever seen and is right now the best goal sneak in the league! Matera is again on top of the goal kicking list and not only is he an awesome offensive player, it is his defensive pressure that sets him apart from all the goal sneak in the comp.

His skills were on show again today and in the first half we saw what a devastating combo Snoop Sampi Samp and Fido could be together in the years to come.

I reckon Ashley Sampi looked a tad like the terminator, just his hair wasn't long enough.

Mayhaps:D I am being a little biased. I just love the way this bloke just scoops up the ball, tosses it onto his boot and kicks the goals. I think Sampi may be a better crumber than Matera as Phil is great at running his opposition player under the ball and doubling back to kick a goal, while Sampi seems to crawl out from under a pack and kick the ball into the goals.

I think time will tell when both players are gone and we are still here at BF in 20 years time reading a thread titled "Who was better, Sampi or Matera"

That's, well, a pretty scary thought, actually. Can you imagine the other topics which would be on this board in 20 years time?

Jod's 1,000,000th post milestone thread.

Glen Jakovich- is this his last season?

Auckland Bulldogs vs Fiji Saints

Matera Jnr's 150th.

Bounce the ****ing ball straight, your orange shirted ****s!

Whatever happened to Fremantle?

-and of course- the fantasy basketball thread :)

Neon is so over rated, the only supporters who rate him are ...... you guessed it.

Sampi had a bit of a so so year, last year, but is now producing what was expected of him.

Wouldnt put Sampi in the Phil Matera category just yet ;)

Phil's having a ripper year and is a major reason why we're sitting near the top of the ladder.... Sampi's starting to look good now tho, and i have to say he's a great kick on goal, especially from set shots

More or less true- I think people are so excited about the form of Chick, Sampi and co that they underrate how good a year Matera is having. People tend to dismiss it as him being on the up end of the traditionally inconsistent cycle of a small forward, but given that in his poorest game for the year he still managed a couple of goals, you have to wonder if this form is going to let up? If he's still on top of the goal kicking ladder in 5 rounds time, he'd have to be a serious Coleman chance, which is a quite incredible achievement for a small (actually, the smallest!) forward.

On their kicking- Phil Matera tends to score his goals in two ways-he's a deadeye from setshots anywhere inside the 50, and he's also adept at turning his opponent inside out and running into an open goal. His kicking probably looks better than it is because of
his ability to get the ball in the hot spot- the greater part of his goals tend to come from relatively easy shots straight in front, not far out- the reason he kicks so many goals, is he's better than anyone else in the league on reading the flight of the ball, and turning a 50/50 contest into a gimmee.

On the other hand Sampi's skills are quite freakish. He can soccer it, snap over his shoulder, is superb when kicking the straight set shot, and, despite his diminutive size, seems quite comfortable loading up and kicking the big one from outside 50. When you add to that the fact that Samps has athleticism to burn, and is a disproportionally strong mark for his size (an aspect of his game which should improve significantly as he bulks up), and he has the tools to be a very very good player indeed. Best case scenario would be a forward a bit like Modra.

Thank god you have a good forward pocket or two, cos the rest of your forward line is crud.

Yeah, thank god we're first in the league in total goals kicked, with a crud forward line.

Be nice to have Wilson this week. I can remember the last game against Collingwood when a few pie players were looking nervously over their shoulders.

Still, the Pies have one win in four and think the flag is theirs. Now is the time to prove to the football world, that they over acheived last year and really are a middle of the road team. ;)

What was with that hair? It looked like he'd done the whole Bali braids then slicked it all back - does this have a name?

I like the idea of a Nelly look. Might get a Comettism "As Nelly says, It's getting hot in hear!"

You look at Samp's hair and think he's a hardcore ganger, until you remember his sister did it for him :)

Actually, iirc, he gave it a test run during the preseason. Might have a photo i took at training to back that up.

With his small and wiry frame....slap on a few tattoo's and give him a red or white headband and he is almost Allen Iverson :D

Sampi would make a great soccer player. I am really surprised with his soccer skills ! He can even control the ball like Ronaldo (Brazilian) the current best soccer player in the world.

Agreed... In addition to soccering goals, he needs to start having sex with an assortment of slappers, tarts, and supermodels, all of whom will then write tell all 'I spent the night with Sampaldo' confessionals for the english tabloids.

I hope Richie Cole plays on Sampi that should be good viewing (pick 6 2001 vs. pick 11 2001). I don't think he will play on him though since Richie is still running into the kind of form that will keep him in the team.
But watch out for Dangerous Dane Swan.. ok thats the best I could think.

A couple of years ago Ronaldo visited Australia and was challenged to control a rugby league ball with his feet without letting it touch the ground. He did it very well. To my surprise a few days ago, I saw Sampi on TV do the same with a footy ball. That in my view shows how skilful he is.

Just wondering if Samp Dawg for nominated for Goal of the Week for his Ronaldo shot against Geelong?
