Well done eagles, a good hard fought out win. Still in the top three, thats the way! :D

I hate to say it but you guys really dont like losing - congratulations and if you win a few away from home you are definitely Grand Final fodder for the Lions.

thanks for those kind words windbag. Those geelong supporters were right, it was closer than we thought it would be. Its always a danger when you go in as such high favorites.

Geelong are a good side, not worthy of their current ladder position.

I reckon a hard fought win like that will do wonders for team morale and also keep the boys in check. Even more so than the10 goal flogging we were all expecting.

Geelong played very well. I thought they were much better than us out of the centre. They didn't deserve to loose, but I'm glad that they did:D

I thought it was only in the last third of the fourth quarter that we managed to get on top, and only just.

But I'll take the win, and enjoy the 3 place in the ladder.

And those eagles supporters like me were right too. :) When I said that I had a feeling Geelong would be a difficult game I felt many didn't believe me. It happened exactly what I thought. A difficult hard fought game with a team that had nothing to lose and isn't as bad as its position in the ladder seem to indicate.

We were flat but won, and it's probably a good thing that we had to fight because it gives us a wake up call. Now I think they will be more focused for the Pies game.

The engine wasn't working today and that means the hooter and electric windows don't get much of a chance.

Cuz is definately injured and shouldn't have been out there today. Reads injury in the first quarter was followed by Gardy getting a cork, Adkins getting concussed and then Cox getting a corky too. If Kerr is fit then I'd be looking at bringing him , Wirra, Wooden and maybe Chambers in next week.

Very very flat.

Not impressed with some of the way we did play and I thought the Cats midfield creamed ours today bar Fletch.

The 3/4 time rev up by Woosha was the tonic they needed to get into it and win the game. Injury and complancency is the reason why we did not do any better, but well done to the Cats.

WC certainly didn't play as well as they could have, but you gotta be impressed how hard Geelong ran and how much pressure they applied to our midfield. Rarely did an eagles player find too much space. The fact that Gardiner wasn't allowed to dominate certainly helped the Geelong midfield, but I think part of the problem was not having Kerr in the middle getting that handpass out to a running player. Can't wait till he comes back.

GO EAGLES!!!

I'm glad we won, I only got to see the first quarter and I was a bit worried, we weren't playing very well, twas' a very nerve racking couple of hours at work, waiting for score updates to be called through..

Can anyone tell me what's going on with our injuries?

Pretty bloody average effort from us. We looked flat as a tack and were soft as ****. Really missed having Kerr in there for the hard-ball gets. Seeing as it was Banners 200th I would have thought he would have been thrown into the middle a bit to win us some hard ball but I guess he was busy keeping Ablett under control.

Cousins shouldnt bloody be out there if he isnt fit. So often Geelong rebounded through his opponent, and he limped from the opening bounce. Im never a fan of playing injured players and if there were any game he could have been rested for this would have been it. No point having liabilities out there, look what happened when we had a couple of blokes get injured and hd no bench to go to.

Good to see Sampi and Fido kicking goals and creating pressure for us up forward. Fido only had 5 kicks all day yet had 3 goals. Pretty good return for limited touches. I still wouldnt mind having a full-forward, I get the feeling that not having one is going to bite us in the bum somewhere down the line.

Better things around mentally before we go over to Melbourne next week. If we play the way we did today against the Pies we'll have no chance.

yyyyeeeeeeeeessss!!!!

once again didn't see the game :( but i hear the score was 42-34 to us at one point (or thereabouts).

and I went to the pub to watch the Waratahs game still unsure of the score and then they had Fox Sports news on but without the sound and the showed Geelong kicking a goal and i thought F*CK!!! geelong must've won (usually they'll show the winning team kicking a goal)

the pulse ran abit then when they flashed the scores and showed us winning the match, it was such a relief.

sometimes these close wins can do wonders for a team, and I'm ecstatic to win.

GO EAGLES!!!!!!!

Youre kidding arent you?

You obviously didnt see the game, the way they fought back

After the siren the whole team was so pumped

A win like that can only serve to do good for Collingwood's morale and confidence

I must admit at the end of the game my first reaction was relief that we got away with that. Geelong absolutely carved us up in the middle of the field. In the Bad Old Days (TM-Ken Judge) we would have lost that one by ten goals. Even last year I think we would have dropped the bundle there.

I must admit I had a feeling if we were close at 3/4 time we should be able to get home as Geelong don't have a great record of four quarter performances this year.

What I mostly liked is that that was the worst performance we've put in this year (both losses included IMO), but we somehow ground out a win on pure guts, and that's the sign of a good team. Maybe we're really back!

Geelong can hold their heads very high in defeat. They were the better side on the day, and are pretty unlucky not to be going home with the points

From what i can gather we didn't play well, but Bob Simpson said "a batsmen gains immense confidence when he's not timing it well, but he can graft out a 100"

and T666,

i think carneagles was saying it was good for us in temrs of ladder position. Probably forgetting we have Collingwood next week.

geelong made us look second rate today. they deserved the win. the only positive was that our boys were able to hold in their and take the pionts.

I'm not sure if Geelong deserved to win. Winning without playing well is the mark of a good team. It is just not possible to maintain high standards week in week out but good teams often win tight games without playing their best football. We displayed the fighting spirit which we didn't have with the previous coach and it is the third time in a row that this happens. We sustained come backs from the Dockers and Melbourne to win well and with Geelong, when many thought we might lose the game, our reaction was good enough to beat them by 16 points. This fighting spirit is very important. Good teams don't just win games with skills and all their best players on the ground. Hard fought battles like the one today, will give us endurance and confidence to win games even when our skills are down or a couple of our best players are injured.

We've probably had two bad games all year, (this one and vs Hawthorn) and if we have come out of the first 7 games with two bad games and a record of 5-2, I'm pretty happy.

We played poorly today, and Geelong probably played at their best, and we somehow still got a win. I'm just glad we got the 4 points... not too bothered about going into detail, yet.

I disagree, if they lost it would have been 3 or 4 straight for Collingwood then they would have been well overdue for a win and probably would have beaten us next weekend. Now that they have that win out of the way, and a big emotional, after the siren win, it will surely be a let down game next week where we destroy them by 75 points :D

I think a lot of you are being far too negative. Big ups to Geelong for coming over and being completely comitted to the cause, being hard at it, and getting numbers around the ball. Yet we still won, how does that make it a negative performance for us?

You can say we played bad or were flat, but the reality is that Geelong made us play bad, and we still came out with the four points. This can only be positive????

Our "superior" midfield got a good touch up outside of anyone named Chad Fletcher and Gardiner could only break even with King but despite that, we took our chances up forward and our much maligned defence stood up time and time again to repel the comitted Cat's attacks.

I thought despite being flat, we played really well. We knew early on that we werent on our game yet toiled away and despite seemingly always second to the ball, or low on numbers around the contest, the players still believed they could win. And sure enough we did.

I cant complain about that.

Jod23,

I think we would all rather see the Eagles play their best week in week out but the reality is that it just can't be done, but as I said in another thread Simmo used to say "A batsmen gains enourmous amounts of confidence when he's out of form and not timing the ball well but can graft out a century" which is basically what we did yesterday.

I think we could be a genuine premiership contendor this year. We're 5-2 and haven't had the easiest draw, but by that we haven't had the hardest draw. But I dont think we've really played at out best this year, but we'res still in second spot. When we really hit our straps, watch out AFL!!

A win like that can only serve to do good for Collingwood's morale and confidence I didn't see the game when I posted that, but I did watch the final quarter on the TV later. I also watched Essendon play Collingwood on Anzac Day. Essendon were pumped as well, kicked ten-odd goals in the last quarter - then they got thumped by Freo.

I'd rather play the Pies coming off an away win they'd pumped themselves right up for, than the Pies having lost four in a row and desperate for a win. Probably the lesser of two evils, but there you go.

Well, a good team can play crap and still manage to win. Thats what we did on Saturday imo. I think it was a good thing because this will give us a wake up call and get us tuned for the pies game in Melbourne on Saturday. We definately played terribly and we didnt deserve to win but we managed to win in the end so i guess thats all that matters. What is with our injuries....who will miss matches etc etc??

Played pretty poorly, out midfield was beaten but we grinded out a good win. In past years we wouldve lost that by a fair margin IMO

Need a strong FF and our midfielders fit if we wanna have a chance next week

Well done Eagles, it was a close game that could have gone either way and unfortunately for us, you guys had a couple of lucky breaks at the wrong time which turned the game in the last quarter.

Anyway, despite the end result, my first Subiaco experience was an enjoyable one. :)

Good luck next week against the Carring Bush in Melbourne.

I dont think we won the game due to lucky breaks. I think both sides were advantaged due to questionable umpiring.

The cats are a very underestimated side. Their mid field is similar to ours and probably a year away from a top six side. I was really impressed by the catters young mf. And also, King is definately the form ruckman in the comp followed by gardi.

Goodluck to your lot this week against the swans

It was a very flat performance - Geelong definately don't deserve to be bottom of the ladder, and I'd be very suprised if they remain there for too much longer.

The Eagles seemed to be missing their usual run in the midfield. Kerr and Wirrpunda was missing while Cousins didn't look 100% and perhaps should have been rested.

The forward structure once again seems to be performing beyond my expectations although we still need to find our key CHF player!

Most selfish act all day - Kingsley not passing to Ablett who was 20m clear and in front of goal. Kingsley decided to do it alone and was lucky to sneak in a behind.

I just watched the video replay of the game and we didn't play that badly, Geelong just came to bring it up to us. We have to get used to that now. IN order to beat us teams are going to start doing what we have been doing for the past 14 months or so...takeing it right up to them. Now that we are one of the top sides, people will be seriously gunning for us. Not like last year where for the first half of the season everyone penciled us in as a win both home and away.

I have to say though, IMO Chick is definite co-captain material.

The Umpires were bad both ways.

Tim Gossage was so Geelong biased I was beginning to wonder where he was from.

I take it Dean Kemp doesn't like the Eagles anymore?

Something to do with the long service leave thing?

Someone said, What do a football umpire and a lawn bowl have in common....They are both biased.

But we already have a captain and a good one at that. When Cousins got sole captaincy after Kemp retired, I knew then that we wouldnt see a new captain for at least a decade. And I for one am happy about that.
