View Full Version : Did essendon make another draft bungle?
I know its very early cause its only pre-season but it seems to me essendon has screwed up by taking Hardingham aheard of Barlow. Barlow has basically been freo's best player in all their games and while hardingham has shown glimpses, dosnt seem to have shown as much as barlow.
Reported we stuck it to freo by picking him, but we might have done them a favour.
What are your thoughts?

Look at it in the positive, it gives me more confidence in our recruiters. I'm guessing, from talk this is, that our top 2 options for that pick were Hardingham (obviously) and from the sounds of things, Barlow. Barlow is looking good, as is Hardingham in these very early stages, so our recruiters clearly know what they are doing. Congrats to any guy that does well that we don't pick, but as long as the guys we pick do well, no complaints here.

Hardingham is more than good enough for a PSD pick. Barlow looks better but this is like going to the betting shop with your friend and winning $50 but your friend wins $100. Just because we didn't get the perfect result does not mean that we stuffed up.

Hardingham did some things that were impressive in his first game. Add to that BOG or close to last night and we're onto something. Also Howlett seems to be travelling well which is great. It'll be nice to have one of these mature age rookies make it.

it is also much easier to stand out in the Fremantle team the the moment..
I think Barlow has played all the preseason games...Hardingham has missed 1 or 2 hasn't he?

Aye. Draft bungles are for 1st and maybe 2nd round picks. When it gets to that late in the draft every club has passed on these guys multiple times.

Bradd Dalziell looked a gun in a NAB Cup a couple years ago. Brisbane were happy to see him go at the end of '09.

Try telling that to Messrs. McPhlee and Bradley after last nights game . McPhee looked glossy and fumbly as usual, and Bradley still hasn't got a clue. He's almost a gorilla on the field.

Agreed, i dont think there is a club out there that can say they have drafted well every year though, we seem to do better out of the second rounders 1 year and 1st rounders the next,

i will decide this after the season! but its maximum 4 from what ive seen, palmer would be nice or danger, obviously recruiting thought jetta was the rioli type and decided against him.
and grimes the other one! but cant blame the club for taking a guy who had performed better in juniors, as you cant predict the future!
and dont forget Jarrod Grant went at number 5 in that draft, i think id rather myers!
im not too worried about myers anyway because we got pears at 23 and if we did the draft now we would probably take pears at 6!
