The match was played with six 25 minute 'quarters' which were split into two halfs of three quarters. 25 possible senior squad players participated in the first three quarters and at half time 13 possible development squad players came on as replacements and played in the second three quarters.
The scores progressed as follows:
Northern Bullants 2.4.16 2.4.16 4.4.28 4.5.29 4.5.29 4.5.29
Box Hill Hawks 3.2.20 7.4.46 13.7.85 18.8.118 24.11.155 30.15.195
Therefore the second half score with the more inexperienced teams was 0.1.1 to 17.8.110.
I am not in a position to report on the form of individual players however it is fair to say it was a very good performance against the team which was beaten by North Ballarat in last year's Grand Final. The only HFC listed player to play for BHH was Shane Savage who played the first three quarters and was certainly prominent after the first 10 minutes. The team lists indicated three Carlton listed/rookie players played for the Bullants.
At this stage we are scheduled to play Sandringham at Sandy on Saturday 13th March at 11.00am and 2.00pm. Today we were faster, fitter and combined better as a team however it will be good to see how we perform against a team which applies more pressure on our players.
My famous last words in Grizzlym's post "Re: Putting HH and Big X on the spot" were " What I can say is that there are already at least nine exciting young players who have shown enough at training to suggest they will get the opportunity to play in the BHH firsts. Further, in 2010 I'm sure there will be a lot of supporters arriving early to watch our Development Squad play because they will play skillful fast free flowing footy.
Whilst today was only our first practice match, I observed enough to confirm the Mustang Hawkers will be very competitive and good to watch in 2010. With the Hawks playing in Queensland next weekend, supporters have the opportunity to venture down to Sandy next Saturday for their footy fix and I'm sure they will not be disappointed with what they see.
