The match was played with six 25 minute 'quarters' which were split into two halfs of three quarters. 25 possible senior squad players participated in the first three quarters and at half time 13 possible development squad players came on as replacements and played in the second three quarters.

The scores progressed as follows:
Northern Bullants 2.4.16 2.4.16 4.4.28 4.5.29 4.5.29 4.5.29
Box Hill Hawks 3.2.20 7.4.46 13.7.85 18.8.118 24.11.155 30.15.195
Therefore the second half score with the more inexperienced teams was 0.1.1 to 17.8.110.

I am not in a position to report on the form of individual players however it is fair to say it was a very good performance against the team which was beaten by North Ballarat in last year's Grand Final. The only HFC listed player to play for BHH was Shane Savage who played the first three quarters and was certainly prominent after the first 10 minutes. The team lists indicated three Carlton listed/rookie players played for the Bullants.

At this stage we are scheduled to play Sandringham at Sandy on Saturday 13th March at 11.00am and 2.00pm. Today we were faster, fitter and combined better as a team however it will be good to see how we perform against a team which applies more pressure on our players.

My famous last words in Grizzlym's post "Re: Putting HH and Big X on the spot" were " What I can say is that there are already at least nine exciting young players who have shown enough at training to suggest they will get the opportunity to play in the BHH firsts. Further, in 2010 I'm sure there will be a lot of supporters arriving early to watch our Development Squad play because they will play skillful fast free flowing footy.

Whilst today was only our first practice match, I observed enough to confirm the Mustang Hawkers will be very competitive and good to watch in 2010. With the Hawks playing in Queensland next weekend, supporters have the opportunity to venture down to Sandy next Saturday for their footy fix and I'm sure they will not be disappointed with what they see.

Can you say who kicked the goals for Boxhill hawks or you can't either?

Neither Luke Ablett or Ryan Jackson played yesterday.

Goal kickers - I did not take note - however it appeared to be spread around.

Hahaha, Luke Ablett didn't play as I saw him partying it up with me at Golden Plains Festival on the weekend.

One of the number of positives to come out of the game was three of our five experienced recruits were rested [Luke Ablett, Ryan Jackson and Justin Plapp] and the two who played [Haydn Kiel and Shaun Pollard] showed good leadership and played solid games. It was terrific to have the opportunity to watch a lot of our talented young recruits in a match and observe the improvement in players from our 2009 Development Squad.

I did not keep a record of the goals but my guess would be that the maximum goals kicked by any player was probably around four.

Just to clarify, I saw Ablett on Sunday arvo at Golden Plains and he wasn't doing anything naughty, just enjoying the music like the rest of us.

He probably went along to watch the game on Saturday and headed up there later that night so I'm not insinuating that he was being irresponsible

Is anyone able to tell me how Lachie George went and will he be able to cement a spot in the senior side this year?

Why is this practice match details so secret. Best players, goalkickers etc should be for all Hawks supporters to see.

It's not that important.

Disappointing result, I hope the intensity lifts in the season proper. ;)

Agreed.

It is obvious that we have serious problems going forward.

halfback dasher, Kris Nye didn't play. He was training extremely well before he suffered an injury. All going well Kris should be playing in a couple of weeks.

hawker39, unlike the AFL the VFL is not highly scrutinized therefore I do not want to post any information that could help our opposition. I would like to provide the best players and goal kickers for all Hawks supporters to see however any information I post can also be viewed by our opponents. I think it is important not to let our opponents know who are all our form players in the pre-season.

Big Footy Hawks have the choice of either limited practice match information or nothing from me so take it or leave it. I hope a lot of supporters can get down to Sandringham on Saturday to watch the Development Squad at 11.00am and Seniors at 2.00pm.
