Clearly beacause NicNat is so great a whole board must sponsor him rather than an individual.
Communal sponsorship thread ftw.

http://www.fijitimes.com/story.aspx?id=140987
Nic Naitanui's continuing rise to stardom will put pressure on Dean Cox to prove he is still the club's number one ruckman, as well as helping ease his workload, according to teammate Matt Priddis.

WEST Coast was still pinching itself yesterday, not so much over its first NAB Cup win since 2005, but more because of the sensational form of second-year ruckman Nic Naitanui in the Eagles' 35-point win over Essendon in Perth on Friday night.
Naitanui Favourite to be 2010 Rising Star

HE'S fast, nimble and lays a crunching tackle, but Matthew Primus says the best thing about young Eagle Nic Naitanui is he arrived a decade too late. "I'm probably happy that I'm retired and not playing against him," said Primus, one of the AFL's premier ruckmen in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Nic Naitanui was the leading vote getter for WCE in the AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year (http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/91719/default.aspx) scoring. He received 5 votes while Justin Westhoff (Port) received 7 and Josh Kennedy (WCE) scored 3. Of the 21 disposals that Naitanui had 20 were contested and with 9 clearances and 9 insides 50's he was unlucky to be nominated for the Rising Star Award.
Oh and he also equaled the hard ball gets record.

I just wanted to say thanks for taking this guy Eagles. He is an absolute freak, I just love watching Eagles games now knowing he is going to be involved. He is just so exciting to watch. I am also so impressed with his rapid development. Last season he seemed very limited with his disposal by foot but it is clear that he has spent a lot of time on this over the pre season and he is now very reliable. It really looks like he is going to live up to his potential. It is astonishing that at just 19 he is already as good as he is.
I just can't wait to see how his career plays out, I am just so excited by him. Enjoy the next 15 years of his career boys it is going to be a sensational journey.:thumbsu:

IT BEGAN with a Superman leap of monumental proportions, and quickly snowballed into one of football's great urban legends.
Did Nic Naitanui's high jump of 1.96m at a high school carnival give him the chance to represent Fiji at the Olympic Games as a 17-year-old?
The story has repeatedly circulated that Naitanui reached the qualifying height at a schoolboy meet, but knocked back the chance to jump for Fiji.
Yesterday, the Herald Sun went looking for answers, and as often is the case, found the story was at least half-true.
Yes, magical Naitanui was so athletically gifted a career as an Olympic high-jumper beckoned.

Hopefully he still gets half a preseason in. If it was known that he required surgery earlier, considering the shithouse season we've had, why didn't they schedule big Nic to have the surgery earlier. His pre-season is stuffed now. He's going to be well and truly behind the 8 ball going into next season. Nice one WC, what's 1 more f*** up, hey.
WC management should've overruled Nic and said you're having the surgery earlier, especially once it was known that the season was shot and finals weren't a chance. That was fairly early in the campaign.
Shit, shit, shit! I was expecting bigger things from Nic in 2011. My expectations and his output is going to be significantly reduced on what they could've been, had he been managed correctly. Damn.
It's a shoulder injury so he should be able to still run and build some fitness. will be right for 2011.

I don't think they'll force him into running too quickly.
I remember Judd said he started running too soon after his shoulder injury sustained in the 2006 GF and felt the altered mechanics he was running with lead to the groin issues he had in 2007.

It'll be three months to regain his range of movement, then one month of strength building prior to proper weight training and any sort of contact/impact. He'll be in an immobolising sling for around 4 weeks following the surgery (wearing it almost 100% of the time, including sleeping) and jogging will probably be a no go for a few weeks after that. Stationary bike and elliptical machine (one handed) will be fine almost straight away.
I'm almost 8 weeks post-op the same injury/surgery.

Personally I think Naitanui playing games of footy will do more for his development than having full preseasons.
Saturday's Worst Australian said that NN would be lifting weights in 2 weeks??
Do they mean leg weights, or are we exaggerating the extent of his layoff?

If that's the case, I can see why they'd let him play on. 4 months would've been devastating to his pre-season. As seen by Cox and others, those who have limited pre-seasons have their regular season hindered.

Personally I think Naitanui playing games of footy will do more for his development than having full preseasons.
It's not just about development though. WC were already having a shit year, so no need to have set backs for 2011 in this case. So playing him injured, whilst apparently needing 4 months of recuperation after shoulder surgery, would've compromised Nic's 2011, just when WC need him with the team to start fresh and fit in a new season.
Thankfully the surgery sounds like a minor set back, after first hearing that it'd be 4 months out initially.
3-4 months doesn't mean he won't be doing any training during that time - it's the estimated time it will take him to get back to full capacity and take part in all of the training.
You can work around almost any injury to get some sort of training effect going.
I'd imagine he would be doing mostly lower body and core strength training along with some general fitness work.
tesseract
10 Sep 2010, 15:02
Of course. We know that WC wouldn't allow Nic to be idle during his recovery. Developing your core, as well as other exercises that could be done doesn't build a sound fitness base quite like swimming, sprinting and jogging. My concern was for Nic's aerobic fitness levels. We've seen the hindrance it's had to Cox at the beginning of 2010, due to having a limited pre-season. The negative effect on Nic's football could possibly be increased compared to Cox, because Nic is still learning the ropes while trying to deal with his lack of fitness. Nic's dynamic style of play requires an excellent fitness base.
A serious shoulder injury can possibly hinder swimming, sprinting and somewhat with jogging. All these are important in keeping a good fitness base. A serious shoulder injury makes movement, without putting stresses on this part, difficult. So, if it were a serious shoulder injury that required 3-4 months before Nic was back into full training, his pre-season would've taken a big hit whilst recovering. 1/3 to a 1/2 of the pre-season would've been disastrous for his game in the early parts of the 2011 season. Cox is a seasoned campaigner, yet he wasn't able to overcome a limited pre-season with experience.
I was fearful of the worst case scenario. With this surgery being relatively minor, I'm reassured that there won't be any effect on Nic's start to 2011.

Watching that highlights package I noticed that Nic seems to be developing a good rapport with some of his midfielders; notably Matt Priddis. I hope that that can continue next season and develop futher so that the rest of the team learns how to use Natanui's strenths to greatest advantage.

I think it's more the fact that Naitanui has one of the best taps to advantage and Priddis in my opinion is the best reader of hit outs in the competition. Pity Priddis is too slow and skilless to take advantage of this talent.

What is a true fan? A mindless, propagandized, PR monkey does not make one, IMO. Optimism is good, but blind optimism is stupid. GO EAGLES takes blind optimism to an extreme. Hence why I don't value his posts.
Those who cheer on GO EAGLES' moronic comments and OTT optimism, their comments are deemed somewhat less credible to me.

Isn't that just being a realist? Being a realist doesn't mean you can't be a true fan. If the person stopped supporting the club all together then they aren't a true fan, but criticising the club when its warranted doesn't mean your not a fan.
