I'm a Pom here in England but I'd have to agree with your team Homer (assuming its a Test team). You're right when u talk about strength in depth ,here in England a lot of the guys u put in your A team come to England evey year & outperform the English players especially Stuart Law.Last season 5 of the top 7 run scores were Aussies, but I think our team is getting better & don't laugh but we might give u a real go in home conditions next year.

My ideal test side would be:
Matt Hayden (If he fails give Hussey a go)
Michael Slater
Justin Langer
Mark Waugh (Lehmann in if Mark fails twice)
Steve Waugh
Ricky Ponting
Adam Gilchrist
Shane Warne (Good luck this summer McGill)
Jason Gillespie
Brett Lee
Glen McGrath

Matthew Hayden shouldn't be within a bulls roar of the test side. He has proved time and time again that he is a great Shield/County player, but has a serious technical flaw that means he cannot makke the next step to play Test cricket.
Same goes for Darren Lehmann and Stuart Law.

Warne and Fleming not in due to injury.
I've said for a long time that M Waugh is finished (was saying it about 3 years ago). He's had about 2 decent innings since then at Test level.

Gillespie & Fleming in squad to be rotated with the other bowlers
Shane Lee to be rotated with Martyn, Symonds & Harvey
Mark Waugh should be dropped immediately on the selectors own estblished policy of sticking with players as Ponting must come in & Martyn does not deserve to be dropped.

I reckon Lee and Symonds are good enough to be 10 over bowlers, particularly with Bevan, Ponting and Martyn to back up.

NICK THE PIE MAN

I wouldn't mind seeing the selectors give Bevan another crack at test cricket. He's one of the world's best one day players but has had some bad luck with tests. But since the test team is so strong at the moment, it will be hard for him to earn a spot.

1. Slater
2. Cox (how many runs does he have to make to get given a chance), Elliot if fit, Hayden has feet of lead should never play at the highest level
3. Langer
4. Ponting
5. M. Waugh (2 tests, then Martyn)
6. S. Waugh
7. Gilchrist
8. Lee
9. Fleming, provides more variety to Lee and McGrath than Gillespie (take your choice)
10. MacGill (Warne when fit)
11. McGrath
12. Martyn
Four top line bowlers because Gilchrist can hold his place in the side as a batsman.
