Previous installments:
Adelaide (http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=682451), Brisbane (http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=683153), Carlton (http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=684041), Collingwood (http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=684093)Not ideal to have four new threads in the space of 24 hours, but I realised I'll need to start 2 a day to have this wrapped up by next Friday.

Next we have Fremantle.

Cannot decide between three players; Stephen Hill, Matthew Pavlich & Aaron Sandlilands. Pavlich is an absolute gun, who could either play up forward or on-ball for us. Having said that, I'd rule him out as, again, I have faith in our forward stocks, and I'd rather have a pure-running midfielder in Hill, who is still 19, if we were going for midfield needs. However I'm going to buck my own trend and go against our obvious 'needs', and select

Aaron Sandliands

He, along with Cox, is the premier ruckman of the competition, and has shown for years that he can go it alone. Having just turned 27, we'd have him for hopefully 4-5+ years, freeing up either or both of Hille & Ryder to play up forward, or in Ryder's case, even down a wing.

This is the least convinced I've been in any of my decisions.

EDIT: Can't do it. Changed my mind.

The Pav.

Mark Harvey or Palmer

I'm okay with Hille, Ryder and Bellchambers. Sandi is a monster though, so I can see why you've picked him. I'm still on the middle of the ground though. Rhys Palmer: 2008 NAB Rising Star, 20 years old and OUT OF CONTRACT AT THE END OF 2011.

Ben Bucovaz simply for having an awesome name. I think it's cos it has a 'z' in it.

How about Casey Sibosado? That's a pretty sick name.

EL Paveru.

Rhys Palmer? Yeah.. just what we need, another crab that cannot kick, could make him a second vice captain to go with the other crustacean.

Also fills our needsPav is great, but let's be realistic; interchange is hardly a 'different position', HFF and CHF are hardly different, nor FF, and the FB selection was an absolute joke. In fact, that selection was almost entirely responsible for the change in the selection process, ensuring that players could not be named in a position they'd never played. If the current, proper system was in place then, Fletcher would've been FB.

Only came here to post my shock at any suggesions that Palmer would be the player selected. He was great for a guy that played his first season of AFL footy but the guy butchers the ball badly and he strikes me as a player who will not get any better. He was physically mature and will only add fitness and smarts to his game. I am not saying that the what we have seen of Palmer is not good for an AFL footballer but he is limited.

I can see Myers eventual output eceeding Palmer's because he moves better when fit and has much more potential kicking ability. Zaharakis is another who can win his own ball who I would prefer to see running through the midfield, not to mention that Melksham got nice reviews and is supposed to be both in and out side (despite his size). Would I sacrifice taking a Pavlich, Hill or Sandilands to add depth to themidfield stocks? No. Hill is a freak but I think is covered by Dempsey and Sandilands is someone that has not convinced me because his work around the ground is simply not that good and stats are showing that even the best ruckwork is not having that much of an impact at stoppages.

I would take Pavlich and play him on ball. His bulk around stoppages is badly needed. We should still be able to get four or five years out of him meaning he would play in our next premiership side.

Would love for this question to be asked after watching Morabito play a few games. His stature, physical capabilities and potential versatility strike me as Pavlich MK II.

Don't start that shit.

Isn't Howlett (the guy taken in the rookie draft last year) a real chance to play round 1?

His run into form of the last few weeks allowing him to be considered to play is a full strength side that finished 8th last year is quite impressive.

If we didnt have a dirth of KP's I take Pav. However Hill would fit in at HBF allowing Dempsey to play more wing/mid

Tough one this one. Lots of unproven talent, and some good list hoggers. Gotta be Pavlich.

Why? Dempsey is a natural HBF and Hill is a natural mid.

Why? Dempsey is a natural HBF and Hill is a natural mid.

Although Hill played a lot of footy in the mid last yr & did well, with Melk coming into the side, I dont see a need for Hill to play this role.

However I see his talent would also be very suited for a spot on the back flank. I think that he would could play the opposite flank to Dempsey ideally now & could switch to wing & mid as needs be.

But it would be awesome to have him in the team irrespective of where he plays

What does Natural HBF mean ? Surely the same skills could apply on the wing too?

Dempsey's best attribute is backing into packs with the flight of the ball, something few players are capable of/brave enough for. Something that would go waste on the expanses of the wings. His other great trait is evasiveness through traffic, much more useful coming out of defense then running loosely down the wing.

Don't really understand the need for everyone to become a midfielder these days.
