View Full Version : The Big Decisions - Selection

Like many of you passionate bomber fans I often find myself daydreaming and piecing together what I believe to be the best Essendon team of the day. This just comes over me and is rarely something I mean to do, it can happen to me in the shower, on the bog, walking to the train station and even occasionally in a very boring business meeting....

Over the last month it has been incredibly strong and I believe their are a number of quite big decisions that Knights and the team will be pondering, let me start by saying that I believe the below are locks:

Fletcher Pears Slattery
Dempsey Hooker ??
Winderlich Watson Dyson
Davey Gumbleton Monfries
Williams ?? Zaharakis

Ryder Welsh Stanton

Hille Prismall ?? ??

The decisions

1. IMO Geelongs greatest strength is winng contested ball, Bartel, Ablett, Ling and Selwood are all elite in this discipline. I believe the two interchange players must go to our better insiders. Two of Hocking, Lonergan and Howett but which two?

2. The FF position, I believe its The Big Rig vs. The Big ****. Laycock gives us the ability to rotate the big 3 through FF (all viable FF options) and also allows us greater flexibilty in the ruck. Neagle is the better kick and potentially a more long term option however if he is not 'on' he is so one dimensional that he can almost be a waste of a slection - who do we go with?

3. The last back line place is out of Houli, Hardingham, Atkinson and potentially Reimers. All attacking players all with good weapons all with significant limitations, who??

For me these are the big decsions for round 1. Yes I could have posted this is the round 1 thread however I am keen to get some discussion on these particular decisions. For me I choose to go with Lonergan and Hocking even at the risk of being pretty slow, Neagle for no other reason that he needs an opportunity before Hurley returns and Houli.

Keen to hear others thoughts...... with only a few days to go these are the decisions that will shape the round 1 team.

I would of liked Fletcher on SJ, but who would play on Pods? Also I would prefer Houli and Lonergan on the bench over Reimers, Howlett and Hardingham. A bit of extra expreience, pace and strong bodies. Houli was our best last time we played them.

I would hardly say Slattery is a lock in, or even Davey and Welsh. As a matter of fact its a great situation we are in at the moment with the depth we currently have.
