It'd be up there - along with Chris Simpson as the least deserving shield captain.
To be fair to the guy, he's only played 6 Tests.
His teammate Mohammed Ashraful is my pick for dead weight in a side. 9 years, 50+ Test matches and an average of 22 point something to show for it. His dropping last month was about half a decade overdue.

bangladeshi opener imrul kayes averages about 12 or something with the bat, mitchell *bling bling* johnson averages almost quadruple that amount with the bat.
apparently they keep him in the side because he has a useful chemistry going on between him and tamim iqbal. and he has a solid technique which cant be said about a lot of the rest...

He's a 20 year old, obviously they see something there.
Atapattu scored 1 run (and 5 ducks) in his first 6 Test innings, and he turned out ok.

It's funny, I remember about 5 years ago, Ashraful played a couple of glorious ODI innings against Australia, and a 90-odd off about 50 balls against England in the same series. I thought he was going to be their Aravinda De Silva, but it's been all downhill since then. A terrible disappointment.

I'm also referring to his FC stats here. How on earth did he get picked with figures like that?

McGain, he should give back his baggy green.

I was trying to think of his name all last night and now I see this thread. Funny how these things happen. Remember watching him in the first 20 20 world cup and he could belt the ball a long way. Thought he could go on with it after that. Bit of a shame really.

he (ashraful) has no technique
imrul kayes is not going too well himself! just look at those stats of his, theyre a stinker!
however the deshis have found some players in this mess: iqbal, mushfiqur and shakib (saqibul) can all play a bit. mortaza is a useful bowler with the new ball
Would have picked Imrul Kayes personally.
Of course picking on Bangladesh is a bit mean. White as a spinner is worse imo
not sure they have much to pick from. terrible domestic figures made all the worse coming from bangladesh. would be no gig for him with mortaza fit.
but, also made 17 in the first innings in a useful stand. highest test/fc score. took 1/88 bowling when the spinners did most of the work on a slow wicket.
have some interesting newer players coming through.

True.FC Ave. 42 with the ball and he bowled mostly at the SCG.

Who were they going to replace him with? its not like they are blessed with quality depth in the batting department, he got dropped because finally someone actually showed something worthy of getting a test spot. Imo ashraful was a wasted talent.
He's just an out and out slogger and for the most part adds nothing to the team. It is like when Pakistan would bat Afridi up the order; he'd either come off spectacularly or, more likely, fall quickly. For a team that really only has two batsmen worth anything in the top seven (Shakib and Tamim), they need someone with a little bit of guts instead of a walking wicket nine times out of ten.

Compare that with, I dunno, the bloke who is now our number 1 spinner and has a Test average of 30.

The title question was 'least deserving', and in that case Shaun Young wins by a mile...
To add onto that, yes he was probably least deserving, alot Australian players didn't deserve their test cap, and fortunately they have only played a few tests.

With that in mind, who would people nominate as the least-deserving Australian (or International) Test players with 10 or more Test caps?

Although to be fair to him the 6 for in the second innings back in 01 helped set up the Adelaide victory for India. He had a great sense of humour as well. Raising his bat when he scored a run (after his 8 ducks or something in a row).

dammit, beat me to it.
i was going to do the old "shaun young board", post his stats, talk about how he was in the right place at the right time, and what a first class ******** he is.
unfortunately his first class stats probably would've got him a game as australia's allrounder 5 years ago...

Doesn't mind the 20 20 world cups. First game hit 65 off 49.
