Mike Sheahan has named his top 50 for 2010 and it looks like Ryder at 44 will be our only entrant. What a joke. Watson is definitely deserving of a spot in the top 50.

Who cares. It's Mike Sheahan
Who cares. It's Mike SheahanExactly.
I was really hoping nobody would post a thread on this, as it doesn't even deserve one.
Mike Sheahan's top 50, and all his articles for that matter, deserve as much attention as a Carlton troll during Round 3.

Whilst he's clearly got Watson wrong, it's an interesting excersize to see where the side is at.
Lets say Watson was named at 25 and Ryder at 44 and these were the only 2 players in the top 50. It's nowhere near good enough in terms of where you need to be for a top 4 side.
If we are to get up there this year, I would suggest that the following players would need to move into genuine top 50 player status:
Stanton
Hurley or Gumbleton
McVeigh
Hille
Prismall is another who i wouldn't be suprised to see his name by the end of the year.
Obviously down the track - Zaha, Melksham, Pears, et al we'd be hoping to move in there but probably asking a bit much for this year.
I'm always surprised at How much people work themselves up over this.... Its just an opinion.... Same as all the other opinions saying we won't make finals....
I don't think Watson would make my top 30.... 35-40 probably...

One of the most knowledgeable, unbiased posters on BF in AussieGun had Watson at about 20 last year. I'm inclined to agree with him.

Why worry about what this guy thinks?
The guy really has NO Idea at all. To demonstrate this he has Sam Fisher at No.25 ! ahead of Didak 43, Mitchell 28, Montagna & Swan 33 & 34.
How could this possibly be?
If you rank a player in terms of consistant influence on a game & importance to the team then Watson is in the AFL top 30 in any reasonable assesment. I think even top 20 perhaps.

However recently I've read a few of his posts and he doesn't seem to have an agenda like most on BigFooty do.
He should have a thread on his top-50 before Mike Sheahan does.

He had Luke Power only two spots behind Sam Mitchell. Disregard anything the bloke writes.

Guys does it really matter what a hun reporter thinks? Id rather be underated than overated because it means when i place a bet ill be able to win more money and clubs might get aheaed of theselves when playing us and screw up.

Someone tell me how Daniel Kerr is 18th and Jobe Watson isn't top 50
I didn't think he did that bad through this list. Some of them have been shockers.
He missed Gibbs and Watson. There were about 10 players I feel he overrated.

omissions such as watsons are deliberate, just stirring the shit, we are talking about a journo after-all

Kerr at 18 is just plain ridiculous. And in response to AG he does his own top 50 throughout the year. He updates it every week on the lists board.

What I want to know is how someone is top 30 at the end of last year, wins a BnF, has a good preseason and then drops out of the top 50.
The placements of Franklin, Hodge, Cooney and Kerr are just moronic.
Every player was well below his bes last year and had no where near the output claimed by the position he was given.
Dale Morris at 20?

Not a bad job by Sheahan but Glaring mistakes were Kerr at 18, Morris at 20, Heath Shaw at 27, Luke Power at 30, Fevola at 31 (should be a bit higher imo). As well as the names he missed outside the 50, it's not an easy job i guess but a few are obvious.

Isn't his pre season top 50 just a prediction for the coming year, not who are the best 50 at a point in time? It's the end of year one that is the best 50 for that season.
If that's the case he can't be wrong until the everything is sorted in 2010. Though saying that some of them look a bit strange.
I do like how we are very much under the radar though.

On "The Bounce" tonight they had Essendon finishing 13th-16th. How the hell do they figure that a team that made the finals last year and only missing one really key player(Lovett) from that team and with young guys like Pears, Hurley and Ryder ready to take the next step all of a sudden going to drop that far?

Think of which teams they support on there. Collingwoood and Hawthorn.

Not to mention the return of Hille, pre-seasons into Prismall, Welsh and McVeigh and the recruitment of Williams.
Many are predicting Hawthorn for top 4 FFS, they don't have a ruck or a backline and several players like Sewell, Burgoyne and Rioli are injured.

LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
- no Watson
- Swan and Montagna not in the top 15, hell not even in the top 30!!
- Dale Morris at 20
- Last year's Coleman Medallist at 31
- Lance Franklin at 3 (Pretty sure it's based on last year yeh?)

It's a prediction of who Sheahan thinks is going to be the best this year. If it was based on last year Franklin would be lucky to be in top 30. But based on predictions for this year I have no idea how he could leave Watson out.
It's a list of who Sheahan likes with a lot of bias.
