View Full Version : Should Sheedy lead you into the future?

Nothing to do with form. I am thinking tactical nous, player development and motivational abilities. Interested to hear what every group of fans has to say about their future under their current coach.
When is the use by date? It will be interesting to see if voting is based purely on form this season or whether there are dissenters in every clubs ranks who can see something most of us can't.
Firstly there is no "right" or "wrong" person to lead us into the future. Whoever the next coach is could be young or old - it doesn't matter. A lot of older coaches maintain fresh ides and enthusiasm better than their younger counterparts anyway.
Part of Sheedy's success in recent years has been his ability to delegate. Robert Shaw and Mark Harvey have as much to do with the weekly planning of the team as Sheedy himself. If Sheedy can continue to maintain his enthusiasm, and freshness, he can coach untl he is 80 for all I care!
There are lots of people who think that when you reach a certain age, you are past your use-by date. I can't agree with that. Sheedy surrounds humself with young people, isn't afriad to change, and - provided he wants to - could easily be the man to lead Essendon into the future. Personally I think he'll coach for another 3-4 years. I don't rate him as the best coach going around. Sometimes I don't even know what the hell he is dribbling about! But I do think he offers enough to continue being of value regardless of his age.

There are some people out there who think Sheeds has had his time and that it is up,to me that is not the case.
I think Sheeds is a wonderful coach,I will be VERY sad to see him go when he does finish,I'm sure everyone will.
I will be absoloutly heart broken.I'm only 19 (20 next month...Sydney game1 :)) and so it goes that he is the only coach I have seen with Essendon.
It wont be 'Sheedy's army' anymore,
it wouldnt be the same.
GO SHEEDS,
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK CHAMP!!!
He is also brillant with the fans, has tons of time respect for us,
good to that. :)
`GREAT WIN TONIGHT`!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He's been very successful; and as Dan26 and Essendon Fan have pointed out, he has changed with the times. He's often been the innovator that created the change.
I can't see any reason to consider anyone else at this stage.
According to one fitzwoy fan we've all been brainswashed by him...
Where's the poll option for that?

I am critical of him as much as anyone else, but somehow I can't see anyone else coaching the club.
I'd like to see him stir up the opposition less. I'd like to see him make fewer excuses for things sometimes. I have issues with his selection sometimes; I think he has a hard time benching ineffective players and I don't think he handles injured players particularly well either.
On the whole, some days he looks less interested than others; I guess that's part of doing your life's work.
I give him credit for a lot of things. Promoting the club, promoting the game in Australia (helped create the ANZAC DAY spectacle we see today), promoting the game overseas - As an American I am extremely proud that the coach of the club I love just happens to be the first AFL coach to sponsor a US born player every year.
Off the field he is an asset to the organization and I wouldn't mind having him on board in some sort of administrative duty once his coaching days are done.

In a word, yes.
I don't see why not. Being only 17, I can't imagine Essendon without him!
Can't really say much else other than take the easy way out and say ditto to pretty much everything above me. ;)

I want Sheedy to coach the Bombers for ever!!! :D
I really can't see anyone else coaching them at the moment, but I do know that one day he will probably have to retire, but until that day it's Sheedy all the way!!!
Go the Bombers!!

Good to see Sheedy's brainwashing is continuing. Do any of you go to the game and actually analyse what he does. If you did, you would find that he coaches poorly far more often than he coaches well. His moves are slow, he destabilises the team, he does not select on form, he is very harsh on younger players, need I go on.
He has been great for us, great for the game, but as a coach, he seriously is lacking. I though he coached ok on Friday night, although he was far too slow with some moves.
Bring on TD as our next coach.

He's done some great things - the 84 turnaround for one, getting us to the 90 GF despite being v.average, rebuilding quick enough to steal the 93 flag etc...
But persevering with duds and obstinence has been a problem. For instance, if he had been prepared to play Salmon in the ruck we would not have been rudderless in that position for most of the last 10 years - this probably cost us at least a GF appearance if not a flag.
There's an argument that he should have done more wiht the talent we've had but has been very unlucky with injuries to star players: Neale Daniher, Roger Merritt, Vanderhaar, Watson, Williams, Long, Bewick, Thompson, Hird, Salmon etc have all had horrendous long term injuries in their prime. Also, the loss of Wanganeen, Andersen, Blumfield, Caracella, Heffernan etc has hurt...
Overall, its pretty tough in the AFL and to stay on for 22 odd years is fairly impressive - especially after finishing 14th in 97. I think he has one more cycle left and that's it unless he delivers flags (2-3 years).

I don't object to the poll but I object to a Carlton supporter posting it. Mind your own business.;)
