In the 2009 season 24 BHH listed players played at least one game in the firsts. 16 of those players have signed up for 2010 and 8 have departed. The retained players are:- Ed Curnow [20 games], Sam Gibson [20], Cam Pedersen [20], Brad Neill [19], Marco Bello [18], Steve Kenna [17], Ben Smithwick [17], Ben Fagan [8], Lachie George [7], Leigh Kitchin [4], Kris Nye [4], Tom Warby [2], Gary Conyers [1], Andrew Renton [1], Dylan VanUnen [1] and Dale Walker [1]. The 8 departing players are:- Lukas Markovic [20], Sam Iles [19], Adam Yze [19], Lachlan McQueen Miscamble [18], Phil Smith [7], Joel Cross [3], Jack Bull [2] and Matt Cunningham [1]. Significantly only three of the departing players scored votes in the BHH 2009 Best and Fairest namely Sam Iles [1st with 45 votes], Adam Yze [3rd with 24 votes] and Lukas Markovic [Equal 4th with 21 votes]. Our five experienced recruits Luke Ablett, Ryan Jackson, Haydn Kiel, Justin Plapp and Shaun Pollard will increase our depth of experienced players and I am confident they will cover the loss of Sam, Adam and Lukas.

Six Development Squad players to sign up for 2010 are:- Jack Furey, Chris Hoegel, Ben Kennedy, Andrew McGuiness, Julien Moussi and Tom Purcell. Our 18 talented young recruits [15 teenagers and three 20 year olds] are:- Luke Andrews, Nathan Burnage, Jayden Cass, Shaun Cross, John Delahunty, Phil Edgar, Andrew Ellis, Jayden Hoegel, Aaron Johns, Jay Kinder, Zacc Ledin, Kieran McShane, Ryan Minahan, David Mirra, James Orr, Michael Thompson, Liam Tobin and Brent Wallace.

The details for the recruits not previously posted are:
Shaun Cross [25/05/90, 183 cms, 75 kgs] Old Xaverians

John Delahuntly [29/06/89, 188 cms, 80 kgs] Minyip Murtoa, North Ballarat Rebels

Andrew Ellis [07/08/91, 171 cms, 76 kgs] Eastern Ranges/Vermont

Kieran McShane [23/01/89, 178 cms, 75 kgs] Launceston/Central Districts

I have no doubt the Box Hill Hawks vigorous recruiting has significantly improved the depth of talent on our list. We have attracted a good blend of experience and talented youth with four players who have previously been on AFL lists and a VFL captain plus six players who represented Vic Metro in the 2009 NAB AFL Under 18 Championships and two players who attended the 2009 Vic Draft Screening.

The BHH have practice matches against Williamstown at 4.00 pm [Seniors] and 6.00 pm [Development] at the Whitten Oval tomorrow, Friday 26th March 2010.

Really happy to see Nathan Burnage on the list. There was a bit of talk before the draft that we might take Nathan to add to our ruck stocks but we can keep very close tabs on him at BH this year. Also very happy to see Brent Wallace and Ben Kennedy I hope both can show real improvement and throw there name up in front of the Hawthorn recruiters.

From the Mob on the Mound: its absolutely tragic to see the leaving of Joel Cross, a huge '09, and M&M our sponsored player, also tragic, he and Lukas did so well last year.

Good luck to the blokes with their futures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Haydn Kiel will be big for us this year, and Smithwick could seriously be anything, bring on the footy!
