Kingers got lots of the ball but you are going to have to hit your targets if you are ever going to make my top 5.
5 - P Burgoyne
4 - Lade
3 - Wanganeen
2 - Stevens
1 - Pickett
5 - Wanganeen. Cometh the hour, cometh the man. A narrow three quarter time lead, the game still in the balance. Who should step up and break the game open ? Super Gav. Faster then a speeding Kangaroo, able to leap tall packs in a single bound, able to play forward, centre and back all at once. The other teams are desperately searching for footy's version of Kryptonite.
4 - P. Burgoyne. Less brain freeze, more effort. That could sum up Peters year so far. Again a great display.
3 - Pickett. THIS is what he was recruited for. The stats were ok, but they just don't do his game justice. The tap ons, shephards and the numerous smothers were vintage Byron. Hopefully he plays this way each week from here on in.
2 - S. Burgoyne. Got most of his goals early when it seemed the other forwards were failing to capitilise on the good work up the ground. Most pleasing is most of his goals this year aren't 'junk' goals when the match is already won.
1 - Lade. When Brogan was off he stood up to the Lade we used to know. Came out on top in the centre marginally, but his defensive work was great. Sitting down the southern end numerous times in the third quarter he took the defensive mark 10 - 20 metres out and stopped the Roos attacks dead in their tracks.
Unlucky to miss out - Kingsley - brilliant first quarter effort wasted by forwards early inaccuracy in front of goal. Faded later, but expect more consistency as match fitness returns.
Che - except for a couple of times playing for the free and being caught out because of it was a great game.
Coaching - 7 out of 10.
Selection: was a mixed bag, glad to see Guerra back and one less tall given the conditions, but disappointed it was Thrust gone - especially on hearing Wakelin had a minor injury and played less then 100% fit. Why not let him rest a week and don't risk niggling injury getting worse and at the same time let Thurstans have a full game in the side ?
Match day : the centre and backline looked dangerous from the start. The forwards early failed to take advantage of good match-ups and players further up the ground so not Choco's fault we didn't kick away earlier. The move of the man of steel forward in the last was a master stroke and the game breaking move.
Umpiring - 6 out of 10. That the rules are inconsistent from week to week I can live with, but inconsistency within the game is another matter altogether. We get pinged for deliberate, they do the same and don't. A push out in defence by us is a free against us, by them it's a mark. That said it at least had no effect on the final result.
5 - P Burgoyne
4 - Wanganeen
3 - Lade

Votes:
5- Gav - more out of habit than anything else, another very good game, he was everywhere.
4- Senior Burger - very close to BOG, really has taken his game to another level in recent weeks, 11 tackles, 20 odd touches.
3- Lade - is the big man back, took a lot of teeling marks, especially in the back half.
2- Pickett - Only had 11 touches but add to that 3 goals, 3 tackles, numerous smothers and a few clever tap ons and he really was value plus.
1- Che - Possible his best game for two seasons, gave us an extra marking option and played some good team football.
Unlucky - Tredders, Stevens, Kingers (great first quarter in the wet), also Juniors four goals could have sneaked him into the votes along with any other of the "unlucky" players.
Umpires: Again a pretty fair go, perhaps a few soft decisions especially early but in the main kept out of the way, there were a couple of "interesting" deliberate out of bounds decisions (both ways though) and that "push" from Bishop was a terrible call. 7/10.
Coaching: Great forward line set up, good use of Gav, it was also good to see faith show in Lade, Che & Pickett all who spent the majority of the game on the ground. Only negative was the lack of the Guru on the field. 7.5/10

5. Pickett -- All right, all right, but that performance was what footy is all about.
4. Wanganeen -- Must have more than a dozen Brownlow points by now, all well deserved.
3. P. Burgoyne -- Is he beginning to show leadership potential?
2. Stevens -- Being terrific is becoming routine.
1. S. Burgoyne -- Ditto.
Apologies to Lade, whose form turnaround was a wonderful as Pickett's, and to Tredrea, and to Kingsley. And Che! What a team we've got!

5. Wanganeen: Do I even have to give reasons!? I'd like to express a very loud 'THANKYOU!!!!!' to Gav's parents!
4. Senior Burger: Marvellous effort that.
3. Pickett!!!!: WELL! I know I've criticised him in the past few weeks but crikey, I've never screamed that much for an individual player in all my life! When he took that mark in the goalsquare in the third quarter, I went NUTS. When he kicked that first goal of the game, I was dancing behind the goals! Brilliant stuff, and I hope it continues! Only downside was that they didnt talk to him back at the club - we were all yelling for him to get up on stage.. but they only interviewed Kingers and Gav. Was quite amusing when Dewy interrupted Kingers' interview to draw the raffle. :D
2. Lade: Finally, Blade is starting to show some form. With the abscence of Broges he really kicked arse, thank Christ for you, Brendon!
1. CCC: Loved the mark he took in whichever quarter it was. He practises them at training, believe you me! Quite possibly his best game for some time.

since i'm relatively new to the boards, i was just wondering about this POTY thing - can anyone post votes/thoughts?...and does anything specific happen at the end of it all - do we present the winner with a bigfooty medal :D
btw, i asked the same thing on the crows board, but hey, i'm a 'neutral' fan - i just like to see adelaide teams winning :o

I think the general idea is if you've seen the match and are putting up a serious 5-4-3-2-1 vote on what you've seen then all are welcome. You've probably also seen some people add comments on why players get votes. Feel free to if you like. The last couple of weeks some of us have also added rating the coach out of 10 (selection and match day) and a rating out of 10 for the umpiring. So add away. The more the merrier.
Prize ? It's not a competition, but maybe whoever gets closest to the top 5 in the club champion award voting (since we are doing 5 players) should be considered the winner :)

5 Gav - the general again.
4 Senior Burger - starting to show the talent we all know he has.
3 Lade - dominated in ruck and assisting in backlines.
2 Pickett - good to see him playing like we all know he can.
1 Che - much better when not actually appealing for frees and playing footy.
Unlucky Stevens, Junior Burger, Tredders and dare I say it Kingsley.
Umpiring - inconsistent as ever but didn't affect the result - pity the media/public doesn't get a chance to really rate them as they'd get crucified with some of their efforts this year. Until they are allowed to be publicly criticised like everyone else in the game this will not improve.
Coaching - well a few were surprised with Thrurstans being dropped but given the weather and the fact Toby will now get a full game it wasn't such a bad change. Be nice to see him come in for Bishop this week but it wouldn't surprise to see no changes this week (no harm in Monty resting a week longer). As for Guerra I feel the limited opportunities may have come about due to Che's form as I was expecting them to swap in our forward line off the bench.
Next 2 weeks will be a good test (especially Collingwood) in the actual coaching stakes.
5- Tredders ( I counted 7 goals he was directly involved in)

5. Wanganeen-What can I say that hasn't been said already. Could it be another Brownlow? Must be in with a big show, as we all know that he will perform to his best week-in week-out. This year his best is also his very best. Champion.
4. Burgoyne senior-He has produced these type of games before. This year he seems to have become more consistent. He does have a lot of ability, and is now beginning to show it to everyone.
Now it gets harder.
3. Che-He has that something that no other player has. Can't quite describe it, but our semifinal against Hawthorn is perhaps the best example of it. Yesterday there were enough times when he showed "it". If on fire for extended periods he is a "team lifter", and thus "indirectly" a match winner.
2. Lade-When he last played a full season, he was a one man flood for us. Since his comeback, he has been forced to play as a forward because of his accurate and long kick. Hopefully one day I will be proved wrong, but he is too big, bulky, and slow to be a "permanent" KPP.
Yesterday he returned to what he does best, and showed it. Hopefully we will keep playing him there and just accept his occasional goals as bonus.
1. Pickett-He deserved at least one vote.
Others- Tredrea and even Kingsley had some very good patches.
Umpires-7/10. Again inconsistent at times, but didn't really influence the match.
Coaching-6.5/10. Again we seemed to play to a set gameplan at all cost, with no deviation allowed, because that is how we play best. Luckily it dried up, and the difference between the two sides was eventually reflected on the scoreboard.
Not saying we need a plan B every week, but sometimes plan A part 2 could be useful.

Unlucky: Lots of players!! Tredrea, S.Burgoyne, Che and Kingsley were probably the main ones...once again, a good sign to see so many of the players have a good game

I'd say we had a plan A part 2 in the last quarter when Gav. was pushed forward. That's what broke the game open for us. I just wish Choco had been willing to give it a try in the second quarter when we had our first use of the strong breeze. Our real test of a plan B will come in two weeks against the Pies - their game plan causes our plan A to break down all too often.

That game will be the best test so far as to how far the team and coaching staff have progressed from last year given that we are pretty much injury free (Francou & Primus excuded but there will always be some good players out given the nature of the game).

Agree with all of that. I thought that what seemed to be (at least on TV) drier conditions helped us more than our coaching moves, but I suppose it was a sort of part 2. However, like you said, even that seemed to take a long time to come.
wrt Collingwood, there are a few coaches that seem to have the wood over Williams. Eade, Pagan and Malthouse.
Out of the three Malthouse is the only one that could worry us this year, so the Collingwood game will be the big test for Williams.
