From AAP:

A MAN is in hospital in a critical condition after collapsing during an Australian Rules football amateur match in Melbourne.

A pack formed during the game at Darling Park, Malvern, in east Melbourne, and when the players dispersed the 24-year-old man was left lying on the ground without a pulse, an ambulance spokesman said.

Bystanders performed CPR until an ambulance arrived.

The man was now in a stable condition at the Monash Hospital intensive care unit, a hospital spokesman said.

No further details were immediately available.

Is the player ok?

Geez I feel for his family and friends. That's a real shame.

Must have been Club 18, because that's De La's ground, and the seniors were up at Old Essendon. De La were playing St.Kevins in Club 18's.

I echo Suzi - and I might hear more if word gets back to Elsternwick Park about it. It's almost certain to be mentioned in the Amateur Footballer next weekend.

When you have a hold of the Amateur Footballer next week can you see if you can find the article for the rest of us.

Whether or not there's an article on it depends on the VAFA, Suzi. De La Salle (or St.Kevins) might not want it mentioned. Norm Nugent - who writes the Club 18 column - might make mention of it but again that restriction might still affect it.

Anyway, if the poor fellow had died it would have been all over the TV evening news (bloody ghouls!!) So at the moment one assumes that he's all right. I'll ask on Tuesday night if anyone knows about it (it may have seeped through to the senior teams in the afternoon and therefore the running umpires there - the Club 18 competition has no VAFAUA umpires).

Don't bother typing any article from the VAFA record. The Amateur Footballer, which is the name of the VAFA footy record will be online every week. The league have the round 5 and 6 editions of the record online at the moment. The vafa site has the details. www.vafa.asn.au

Wow, I go to their site all the time, but never thought to look to see if the record was on there! Good news.
