I looked for a thread on it already and couldn't find one apologies if there is one. I personally haven't seen this yet but I am sure some of us have. Thoughts?

I saw it tonight and thought it was average, the action scenes were very good but the storyline and plot was just terrible and in my opinion ruined the movie. Sam Worthington was pretty good in it, with what he had to work with.

Nothing special really, I thought it would be an epic battle scene movie but this wasn't the case.
I just saw it then and have to agree that the plot isn't very good and neither was the 3d.
4/10.

Wortho was great but the whole idea to change Hades to a person rather than a place is ridiculous and underestimating the audience - Orpheus is the god of the underworld - what difference would it have made if they have of called Ralph Fiennes by his proper name.
Also why important a friggen Norwegian Squid myth into classical mythology? There is enough there for ten films without importing that crap into it

I was under the impression that Hades was both the name of the abode of the dead and the god of the underworld. Hades was the oldest male child of Cronus and Rhea and therefore the elder brother of Poseidon and Zeus. His consort was Persephone.
Orpheus was a Greek hero who one of the few to visit the Underworld, seeking Eurydice and return. He was also one of Jason's Argonauts.

Hades was the god of the underworld. The underworld itself was called "Hades' house", but this was often shortened to "Hades" as well.

It was okay, dialogue at times seems a bit weird for the time period they were supposed to be in (e.g. "don't look that bitch in the eyes") but overall it wasn't too bad

Please stop un-educating BF readers. Hades is both a person and place. Hades the person, is Brother to Zeus and Poseidon and the 3 of them ruled the world:
Zeus - the sky
Poseidon - the sea
Hades - the underworld (not to be mistaken as evil or the devil)
Orpheus was a musician... LOL.
Went in with low expectations and it was very very average. 3d seemed completely pointless.
Usually would go to the movies on a cheap day but went last night (Sunday). Got charged $21, and they wonder why downloads are rampant ffs

Roy I have to get a classical mythology book obviously. After I posted this my ten year old son corrected me and said I was an "idiot" thinking anything else. Thanks for correcting me again brother!

I am the Sarah Pailin of classical mythology. I withdraw my post unequivocally. After putting this to my ten year old son he said I was an idiot when it comes to classical mythology. Am I wrong about the Krakken also? Does not sound very Greek to me!
For the people that have seen it, is the plot similar to the 1981 masterpiece??
Seriously can you top Lawrence Olivier as Zeus??

That said, Poseidon did have command of sea monsters.

I thought it was entertaining enough. The 3d seemed rushed and nit quite right.
Worth seeing but I would not get it on DVD.

I had heard that the 3D was a rushed after-thought so decided 2D was the way to go.

I heard some "expert" talk bout this on the radio, it was converted from 2d to 3D unlike, Avatar which was filmed in 3D. Hence why it wasn't as good, im still keen to see th movie, but prbly only in 2d.

I had heard that the 3D was a rushed after-thought so decided 2D was the way to go.I liked Stephen Colbert's take on it:
"They shot it in 2D, and then converted it to 3D. Amazingly, the characters stayed 1D."
I am the Sarah Pailin of classical mythology. At least u aren'tChopra-esque.

Went and watched it tonight, wasn't flash hot. Only part that entertained me was the scoprian fights.
After that i thought it might pick up and have a good finish, but it just went down again.

The 1981 version, plot wise, is fantastic (special effects are bit dodgy but it was 30 years ago, at the time I'm sure it was ok). This remake however strays from the original plot quite a bit. Action scenes and special effects were good, storyline not so much.
Original definitely better imo.
For those who watched the movie did everyone come out of the movie wondering what the hell was the go with that owl? Evidently Sam Worthington did.
http://www.aceshowbiz.com/news/view/w0002125.html
The moviemaker tells Entertainment Weekly magazine, "Sam couldn't stand the owl. He wanted to destroy it. He kept threatening to drop it. He'd say, 'This is ridiculous! This is a ridiculous thing to have in the movie! You're going to ruin my career with that owl!'" The actor adds, "That owl did not deserve to be in our movie.

If you have not seen the original then you would not get the small homage to the owl that was in that film. I had to explain to my wife what that was about.

No question the original was miles better. The original was 8/10. This was 3/10. This is one of the worst remakes of recent memory. I would have loved to walk about before the money-back gaurantee halfway point, but I had dragged two friends along with me and had to pretend I liked it.
Worst points were
terrible dialogue for all characters
annoying and unnecessary characters e.g. the 2 bumbling brothers and the suicidal town cryer.
departure from the 1981 mythical and mysterious story into something about revenge
boring bits - way too many on the journey to the underworld
predictable scenes with no tension, even the fight scenes and the ending
If you liked or loved the 1981 version then steer clear at all costs.
Average plodder of a movie. Sam Worthington was pretty good though.
Worth seeing if you want something you don't have to think about.

i couldnt stand worthingtons accent. reminded me of costner in robin hood (ie out of place).
some of the dialog was cringeworthy - worthington said "bitch" when refering to the witches/medusa (cant remember).
something about the costumes seemed out of place. seemed like a mish mash all thrown together.
fight scenes werent as good as i thought.
more character development wouldve been good although it couldve made the movie longer (do not want)
