I was wondering if anyone on this board has ever pitched an idea for a TV show or movie? I have an idea for two television series, and three movie ideas, but I am wondering who to pitch them to, both nationally and internationally?

I know that there is a slight chance they will be picked up, but I am just doing it because I have these ideas, and want to do something with them. You never know if you don't try, right! So, if you have done it before, what is involved? I am interested in hearing people's experiences.

Yeah, my idea was to have Joey from friends living on his own in another city.

Didn't take.

Film Vic can help you.

They even have a section on their web site to guide you through the process.

Good luck.

I made an el cheapo film a couple of years back, got a few people to watch it and in turn look at a series I'd written. The main happening was at the ABC, where the guy who saw the film was head of sketch comedy, who despite liking what I'd done had to pass my stuff along to the people in narrative comedy - then the fun started for a few months it bounced around people - at one stage it actually came back to me and I had a phone call, asking me to send it back because they'd mistakenly returned it to me instead of passing it up the chain! As is obvious, it was eventually shit canned. And I watched with interest as people who had relationships with ABC executives got their shows made. I'm not saying what I did was fantastic, but what are the odds? Me or someone who's been to an exec's dinner party.

Similar at Nine - absolute buffoonery.

Experience with 10 was different and the guy I dealt with was great, no BS, gave me the time of day. After he watched the film he straight out said if the series was similar, it wasn't the type of thing that would work on commercial TV, but asked for the pilot script anyway - was confirmed, but he actually seemed like he had his shit together and it makes a difference when someone responds and can actually give you a few points - proving they read and watched what you'd done - still, Mark loves Sharon got to air and I didn't :D (though that was 4 years later).

Sent a really basic, bare bones concept (basically a one character, one location, Read: very cheap content for ABC2) with pilot script and series outline into the ABC not long ago. The 'no' response read like a lazy summing-up of my cover letter - when quoting me back the synopsis they had major details wrong.

Be prepared that most of them are lazy, and/or too busy to be interested in you, don't care what you've written, and probably won't give it much attention either.

If you write something and can have visuals to accompany it, you're probably a better chance. People are usually more interested in watching something than reading. Being able to visualise how a show will work on screen helps.

tl/dr

I had an idea for one of those short 2-3 minute "show in between a show" that are screened in between cartoons. MTB aka Mountain bike boy would have been perfect for the 05:58 - 06:00 timeslot between the end of rugrats & the 06:00 news, aka the new grogs.

"Come on lil mountain bike boy come enjoy the ride
Come on lil mountain bike boy let's see what you can find
Mission and adventure, you just have use your mind
Come on lil mountain bike boy (mountain bike boooooooooooooooooy)
Best days of your life"

They loved it but said since they stopped showing rugrats 7 years ago there unfortuantly was no place for it. currently trying to crack the Japanese market, looking good so far.

i once thought about an idea for a movie where "everyone is in on it", yet i couldn't come up with a reason why, this was early 90s

"Truman Show" eventually did come up with the TV Show angle
