This is the team named on the Port Adelaide website. Of course Chad may not be in and the final team somewhat different. But we'll know soon enough. Myself, I think even if the appeal's successful it'll only do to knock a game off the sentence. Which is probably enough, I don't mind facing the Bombers without Cornes but Collingwood seem to have a liking for AAMI and I'd want our strongest available team on the park.

All Australian half back Brett Montgomery will play against Essendon on Friday night after being chosen in the Power’s 22-man side on Thursday night.

The side included forward Chad Cornes who was suspended on Wednesday night but was due to have an appeal heard at 6pm.

The Power is appealing the two-match suspension handed down to Cornes after being found guilty of rough play against Jess Sinclair and will re-name its team without Cornes if the appeal is not successful.

Montgomery last played in Round 4 when the Power beat Carlton at Optus Oval. Since then, Montgomery missed four weeks of football with a knee and back problem. He was passed fit to play against the Roos but was given an extra week of training to make sure he was right.

Brent Guerra was very unlucky omission for Monty. Guerra didn’t get much game time against the Kangaroos although showed some great form a week earlier in the SANFL to earn last week’s call-up.

Guerra is one of the three emergencies who could still play in the Friday night blockbuster if Chad’s appeal is not successful. The others are tough defender Jared Poulton and highly rated 17-year-old Steven Salopek.

The Power side to take on Essendon on Friday night, subject to the Chad Cornes appeal, is as follows:

PORT ADELAIDE

Backs: Hardwick, Wakelin, Bishop

Half Backs: Wilson, Paxman, Wanganeen

Centreline: Schofield, Carr, James

Half Forwards: Pickett, Tredrea, C. Cornes

Forwards: ****atoo-Collins, S. Burgoyne, P. Burgoyne

Followers: Brogan, K. Cornes, Stevens

Interchange: Cochrane, Kingsley, Lade, Montgomery

Emergencies: Salopek, Guerra, Poulton

IN: Montgomery

OUT: Guerra (omitted)

All Australian half back Brett Montgomery will play against Essendon on Friday night after being chosen in the Power’s 22-man side on Thursday night. And after being dropped earlier on Thursday night, Brent Guerra was re-instated to the team after the Power appeal against Chad Cornes’ suspension was dismissed.

The Power named its side by the Thursday night 5:30pm (CST) deadline and included Cornes who was suspended on Wednesday night but was due to have an appeal heard at 6:00pm.

Cornes later lost the appeal and will now definitely miss the Power’s next two games against Essendon and Collingwood.

The Power then submitted a revised team that saw Guerra keep his spot in last week’s side that beat the Kangaroos. The only change is Montgomery in and Cornes out.

Montgomery last played in Round 4 when the Power beat Carlton at Optus Oval. Since then, Montgomery missed four weeks of football with a knee and back problem. He was passed fit to play last week but was given an extra week of training to make sure he was right.

Midfielder Dom Cassisi was added to the emergency list after the Cornes hearing, joining tough defender Jared Poulton and highly rated 17-year-old Steven Salopek as the next in line.

Meanwhile, Essendon will be without its three biggest stars in James Hird, Matthew Lloyd and Dustin Fletcher. The trio will all miss through injury. Hird was ruled out earlier in the week with a calf injury. Lloyd and Fletcher were rated as chances to return this week but were not named in the team on Thursday due to thigh and ankle injuries respectively.

The Bombers also lost Paul Barnard this week through suspension and dropped James Davies. The good news for Essendon was the return of the mercurial Dean Rioli from a hamstring injury. Marc Bullen was also recalled to the team.

The two sides to clash on Friday night from 7:40pm (local time) at Telstra Dome are as follows:

PORT ADELAIDE
