View Full Version : Appeal Decision

From the radio news report that I have just heard,

Chad was asked if he still wanted to appeal

Decision took 4 minutes

Power officials were not impressed with proceedings

I think that now we all must wonder whether there is more behind the scenes that we know about.
The AFL continue to say that the tribunal is independent but I wonder whether it really is as it really was only a one match incident.

You have to admit that it is a great way to even up the competition at the moment with interstate teams leading.

So that Buckley one where he wiped blood on a player - how long was it that took? 1 hour, 2 hours, more?

Good to see how fair and impartial the AFL tribunal are, if your president has 3 chins.

Because Eddie was in on the tribunal decision and all....

Stop fishing for excuses saying our President is the be-all and end-all of everything to do with the AFL because he is publicised a lot.

That's not just at you by the way, but I can't see what Eddie McGuire could do - during a tribunal hearing - that would influence the tribunal in any way.

I mean Tarrant got suspended last year for nothing and nothing happened to Phil Matera when he knocked Tarkyn Lockyer unconscious.

****ing pathetic. Why did we join this league again?

Common sense (a rarity for the AFL to display) has prevailed.

Going on the logic of the first post, Matthew Lloyd shouldn't have a got a week in 2001 for the half love-tap headbutt on Gaspar in the finals that year.

So we get screwed by officialdom yet again, it happened in the SANFL and it will keep happening in the AFL. Remember, the geezer that runs this league is fan of our 'friends' from the other side of Port Road (despite his claims he barracks for the Dockers:rolleyes: ) so why is anyone surprised? Let's just suck it up, move on and take out all our frustration and revenge on Essendon & Collingwood.

2 weeks though, seriously! What a f***in' joke!

Certainly would have made for some interesting headlines considering he would never hold back on his feelings in this 'sanitised' competition we are in.........

But they did spend hours over a decision that was pretty cut-and-dried. So why barely any time at all over an appeal when an umpire had made some pretty scathing remarks that could have unfairly swayed the tribunal. Say what you like, but the AFL only wants to be seen to be fair where it suits, and that place is not Alberton.

Come to Windy Hill and tell us all about it...you may get a sympathetic hearing.

Don't worry about it guys. Our team has overcome the odds and loss of players time and again this season. They'll step up again this weekend.

Nice to see we got our usual sympathy from The Footy Show tonight as well. Talk about getting kicked while your down! Stuffing Essendon & Collingwood would shut those t*ssers right up now, all Choco needs for motivation is to show 'em the tape.

I have finally seen the incident, and your description of it was 100% accurate.

After all of this my real problem is with the umpire and his comments. I do not think that it was warranted to speak like that at all.

The AFL want to clean up the footy then please tell the umpires to act accordingly. It has "left a nasty taste in the mouth"

Akers gets fined for what really? It seems that nobody can speak out against the AFL these days. This means to me that they know where and how they are wrong and do not want to change things at all.

The appeal decision went further. Lewis said that it was the most amateurish piece of smoke and mirrors he had ever seen.

This related to Port saying Cornes' foot had slipped while other vision shows that at the point of contact with Sinclair, Cornes' foot is on the ground.

However I cannot see how Cornes' foot is supposed to not end up on the ground after the slip. Left foot goes, knees then hands come down.

I consider the verdict to be very unfair on Cornes. However if you keep your feet there is no room for arguments of the sort some have been having here so I will leave that part.

As for the comments of Margett and now Lewis. They far exceed their responsibilities in both the report and the consideration of the appeal.

One is clearly designed to bury Cornes, the other to humiliate the Club. I ask what agenda is at work here.

Personally I am of the view that the umpring, reporting, video review and tribunal system is in a shambles, and furthermore, there is a lack of leadership in the AFL, which is the root cause and the reason there is no reform.

The umpires evidence is an over the top defense of some appalling decision making during the game, while the treatment of the appeal is designed to reinforce the fact that the tribunal is right, as is the judiciary system as a whole.

Since the Power are following this up (according to tpday's Advertiser), how long do you think it'll take for it to be appealed to the Supreme Court? Do you think it's worth it?

I very much doubt the club would take it to court as it's not something we are known for compared to other AFL & SANFL clubs. I have seen the article and there is only really 1 comment from the club which is lead in by a journalists comment

Port football operations manager Mick Moylan left the tribunal signalling the Power's official complaint this morning. "We're upset because we're being described as a smoke and mirrors club," Moylan said. "I think no one would like to be described like that."

The best place to follow this up is out on the oval for the rest of the year and then the club can broadcast it's true thoughts on the matter.
