A pretty good read raising some valid points.

CARLTON and Essendon have been punching back and forth for decades in one of football's great rivalries. The big difference these days is the weight division in which their bouts are played out.

Yeah, was a decent read. Although, listing Dempsey as an average player is a bit much.

Both clubs are a long way off.

Interesting that Carlton have yet to develop any young talent of real substance in the hardest areas of the ground (FF, CHF, CHB, FB) while Essendon have got nothing in what is supposed to be the easiest area of the ground (midfield).

So when do we merge the two sides and dominate for the next ten years? :p

How would we would kill for midfield talent like Judd and Murphy. And they would do the same for Pears, Hurley and Hooker. Both clubs seem a long way off their next flag. No idea who will get their first. Gee I hope it's the Bombers, but both clubs have glaring weaknesses in their lists.

I think both clubs are closer to a flag than Collingwood. Coupled with last week's lucky escape against Melbourne last night showed that they are pretenders on the big stage. Jolly and Ball are not the saviours they hoped they would be. They're going to have to rebuild again before they are a genuine flag chance. The current squad is not up to it.

Micheal Jamison would definitely qualify here I would think.

I thought it was a fairly good article, Essendon's future isn't that droll, some very likely looking players coming through (Zakaharis, Hurley, Pears) I'd say we were ahead thanks to the quality of the midfield
