Port Adelaide forward Warren Tredrea was the star of the show against Essendon at Telstra Dome on Friday night, when he finished with seven goals.

The 24-year-old played his best game of the year when he finished with 23 touches (16 kicks and seven handballs) while he raked in 12 marks in a performance that drew high praise from Power coach Mark Williams – especially for his accuracy in front of goal.

“He has kicked 20-out-of-20 at training, but it’s probably the best in a game though, which is good,” Williams said.

“He still got a fair few years in front of him and if that’s a sign of things … the fact is he keeps working at his game, he never losses faith in what he’s going to become and he wants to become a really great player.

“He needs to string games like that together and that’s when you really believe in his greatness.

“As I’ve said before, he has great elements of his game which are easy to see, it’s just the negative of his goalkicking that is the one people want to spend too much time on I think.”

Williams said Tredrea had worked hard on his oft-maligned goal-kicking, despite his powerful marking and work around the ground.

“He keeps working on his routine – that’s all it is,” Williams said.

“We continually go back to it all the time and the more he gets these successful outcomes, the better he’ll become.”

Up until the game against the Bombers, Tredrea had eight goals from six games for the year, but he now has 15 majors for the season.
