I reckon the line-up's put together by some marketing bod in about 5 minutes. Some of them are dead-set stupid.

Well I'm thinking more about the bombers winning as Stanton is critical to our midfield, but yeah, my SC is probably gonna fall over this week too

You know the team is in trouble when even Atkinson looks worried and unsure about his place in that picture.

Great to have Hurley in and Zaharakis in the midfield but terrible to have Stanton out.
As funny as the Atkinson thing was, the actual team has been put into the OP for discussion. :thumbsu:

Stanton's an unfortunate loss but i think we can cover him ok with lots of rotations. We still have guys like Houli/Lonnergan/Reimers etc who can play a bit on the flanks and then rotate through the middle so we should be alright. Hurley should improve our structure a heap even though i think he might have a quiet one on Glass but at least will give Gumby/Williams a good chance against the eagles lesser defenders (who aren't that great in my opinion). The real key is going to be if we actually turn up to play at Subi and i think we will know that by quarter time. Let's hope we do because im tired of watching us play like rubbish at Subi.
We must make sure we get the defensive matchups right against Lecras and Kennedy especially. I'd like to see a slightly left-field matchup of Lecras vs Pears. I don't trust slattery to do the job vs him and i'd like to see how Pears goes against a different type of forward i reckon he would do a pretty good job. Hooker vs Kennedy seems right should be a good matchup. If we can stop these two players from having an impact i reckon it will help tons. Hopefully we can get good defensive pressure on because the eagles have been giving teams turnovers like theres no tommorow in the last few weeks so if we can pressure them their disposal is likely to falter.
Ruck matchups should be fun. Ryder/Hille v NicNat/Cox. Neither Cox or Hille are in great form and i reckon it will be fairly even in the actual ruck itself, it will be the around the ground workthat is going to determine the winner of the overall duel. I would be trying to engineer some Ryder vs NicNat matchups in our forward line if we can, its probably the one section of the ground that we could possibly exploit Naitanui. I think we will see Ryder/Naitanui on each other for most of the night in the ruck and around the ground.
Liked the all Atkinson team as well. Fastest team ever!

Anyone with any news on the extent of Stanton's injury? Just a niggle? Back next week, we think?

The Atkinson thing happens each week.
It used to be Matty Allan that was listed in every position a few years ago.
As for the team - easy change in the end due to injury.
Stanton will be a huge loss on Subi.
time for an under-perfroming senior player to lift this week otherwise send him to the magoos.
Good luck to Lonergan and Houli. We will find out by how much Lonergan has built his tank up. Big test for him.
Will we turn up or another pathetic away loss coming up?
I think it is about time Welsh returned to his ways. See the best from him.
He is now going to have to help out Watson and lead our young and inexperienced midfield.

Problem for Welsh is Subi is big and his side-ways indecisive approach will be a problem. He needs to shut the oppositions best ball winner out (and not give away so many free kicks for holding).
This game will tell us a lot. My main hope is Hurley straightens us up going inside fwd 50.
Whoever Spangher lines up on, kick it to him. What an absolute spud that guy is. also give him the ball, he will give it back in a better position.

Need a team effort. when we are away, we always rely on too few to do too much.
Even if Hurley is quiet, he must play deep and demand the ball. By doing this we will look very dangerous. He will open up space for williams and Reimers.
In the middle, I think Watson must have a big one, but also the ruckmen have a huge task - Cox is out of form but when will that end, and NicNat is more hype than substance, but he brings the crowd and his team mates into the game.
I would like to see Dyson given first crack at LeCras who is the biggest danger (he just oozes class). I thoguht Dyson was impressive for the few occasions he was on Betts (at least it seemed he was on the TV). I am not a Slattery fan as he is slow and lacks awareness (but he tries 110%). I think Dyson could take his role as the shut down back pocket.
I actually think the kids are who will do it in the middle - Zaka, Colyer, Melksham. The raw pace and enthusiasm is what is needed. We need to run and run and move the ball quickly. WC's backline is average and under pressure will struggle.
Of course kicking straight must occur. If we miss 3 or 4 shots and WC score, away we drop our heads and then they get a run on. The crowd for WC and not for us is really the home ground advantage. Players feed off the roar. Away wins are about mental toughness (something we have been pathetic with). Time for us to show some steel!!!

I really like that idea. Would be good to see if Dyson could hurt him going the other way. I though Dyson was one of our best players against Carlton last weekend and he is having a pretty good season playing in his new half back flank role.

My thoughts exactly. Ordinary WAFL player at best and struggles to play at AFL level every time they pick him in the WC side.
Hope he goes to Hurley...:thumbsu:

Someone on another site suggested Gumbletron may not have traveled with the team to Perth. Is there any truth to this? Hope not, but who of the emergencies comes in if he is out? Darcy Daniher to play forward?

Losing our best running player should we have included another runner or do we have enough. Time will tell. Saying that i understand Hurley had to come in but perhaps someone else may have made space for a runner.
Hopefully we will be right.

I think you have to see how Melksham, Colyer, Houli and Lonergan go as back-up midfielders to Watson, Welsh, Winderlich, Dyson, Hocking.
