Today

Williamstown 53 17 335
Springvale 1 0 6

Springvale did not score until the last quarter. Williamstown's worst quarter was a 10 goal quarter, there best quarter they kicked 18 goals.

Springvale are making a joke of the VFL reserves competition and it is time Football Victoria pulled the pin on that club. It wouldn't shock me if the reason they got belted by so much was because they only had 15 players turn up. If anyone was there let me know what happened.

Bloody big score!

Don't know how it fits on the VFA highest scores list, someone gave me a 1921 score :

412 1921 Vic VFA Coburg ?.?.412 def Caufield ?.?.?.

But not certain about it.

Geelong West in the VFA under 19s got some huge scores kicked against them about twenty years ago - I seem to remember them having something in the vicinity of 500+ kicked against them in a game.

You'd have to be spewing Springvale kicked a goal, think of the damage it would cause to the percentage!

1998 Woden 50.18 d Cooma 0.1 (just missing the NSW top 10) and I was one of the goal umpires. No RSI. Didn't even need to check for it.

On the original subject of this thread, do NOT be surprised if the whole reserve grade competition keels over eventually. And I'll tell you why. No one wants to play for anyone (except possibly Tasmania, Frankston or North Ballarat) because of the domination of the AFL Victorian clubs through the other teams means no guarentee of a senior game. That is - any AFL player coming back through the VFL gets a senior game, whilst a player for the VFL gets dropped. No wonder they get pi$$ed off!

The silly thing about it - did I read from some of our SA members about a complaint that the SANFL's recruitment was being curtailed by the AFL because of a loss of players to the SANFL from Victoria - including the VFL? Sort of gives you an idea of where the problem is. The AFL THINKS it's the SANFL poaching - when in fact the problem is in Melbourne, not Adelaide!!! How can a club like Norwood for example poach from a club like Springvale when the guy WANTS to go where he'll get a senior game!!

And yet you've still got fools out there that think the VFL can be compared to the SANFL. What a joke. The SANFL is streaks ahead and are closer to the AFL than the VFL!

Pay is also better in Adelaide, plus the lure of getting gametime. There are around 20-25 AFL players playing each week, over 9 teams, so most are paid players.

The salary cap here is what the AFL oppose, and is used as a reason why the junior development funding was reduced from 450k to 50k this year. 'Some' people in the AFL for some reason are upset that the SANFL still survives on its own steam, with help from the Power and Crows (whom the SANFL own).

Which of course explains why the VFL gave the SANFL a 10 goal flogging on its own turf last year.

That is truly unbelievable. Willi ressies are a good side, but even so! VFL Reserves is a pretty high standard, I do the stats for Box Hill and there are usually between 4-6 AFL listed players on any given day.

Box Hill reserves have a pretty good side due to the seniors been so strong, yet have won only 1 game for the year.

We actually play Springvale at Shepley this weekend, and I'll be doing the stats - could be a fun day! Box Hill 2's desparately need a win - I hope we show no mercy and thump them!

SANFL better or even streaks ahead of the VFL well all we can do is laugh hahaha the facts and stats are all on paper which should shut up any South Australian.

In stark contrast to the Willy and Springy game the North Ballarat vs Coburg game was a draw 11.8.74 drew with Coburg 10.14.74 it was a game Coburg tottaly gave up being 27 points up in the last quarter and on paper having a 10 goal better side, but the home side sturred on by a preety large and vocal crowd snared a goal with 30 seconds left to get a draw out of it, was quite amasing actually, considerong Coburg had players like Duncan Kellaway, Dragaceivic, Cal Moore and Daniel Sipthorpe all from Richmonds list as well as 2 former Carlton supp players and Steven Rode from Hawthorn and Collingwood it is quite amasing that Ballarat got anything but a flogging in this game.
All credit to the Roosters they wanted it alot more than the boys from Coburg.

cheers

What Mattyc said.

Thing is, as much as that was a spanking, Buninyong v Gordon in the CHFL this coming weekend may be just as bad.

Maybe not to the tune of 300-odd points, but it'll be pretty bad! :(

Oh sorry Phil.D! I forgot you were down in Cooma around that time! Has that backman been doing handstands on the mark lately like he did against ANU in 98? *LMAO* I always think of that one whenever I think of Cooma (and their win over Murrumbidgee at home that I field umpired and the Bidge HATED me and my partner after that one!)

No offense DoggyBase and tige19... but when did this become a 'my league is better than your league' thread?

There was a thrashing in the Bellarine Football League on saturday.
Anglesea 52.21:333
defeated
Portarlington 6.6:42

That score line sounds bad,but it's an improvement for Port.Last week they lost by 307pts.

An Angelsea player,Ian Tomkins, kicked 23 goals, yet didn't make the best players list.

Disappointing 1st quarter for Willi!

In all seriousness how can a team possible kick 34.7 in a quarter - it must have gone for about 50 minutes!

I would have sacked the Willi defence! How dare they let Geelong West in for two goals! :D :D :D :D

When the goalkicking gets this frequent, they do! Recent Navarre v Landsborough match was capped at 30 minutes despite would time-on would have required so they could finish before it got too dark.

The Oatlands DFL (who claim the record) acknowledge it, Kev. They just say that the ODFA is an incorporated league and the MCDFL isn't. I would assume ditto for the Sydney FA (given that Woodsdale is third on the all time list). So they claim the record for the highest score ever in an incorporated league!

And their correction to that was caused by yours truly BTW!!
