Just wondering , who was the last player to 'dodge' the AFL draft and stay at their non AFL club and will there ever be a 'next' player who does the same thing ( for example if i was a footballer and i got drafted by the 'wrong' club i'd say, on the telcast of the draft mind you if i was interviewed, "i'm not going there under any circumstances, i'm remaining with North Adelaide(or Swan Districs) next year and for the forseeable future")

Pavlich said he wasn't going to relocate when he was in 98 draft - wanted to finish high school in Adelaide.

Most recently I think Clancy Rudeforth (who got onto one of the WA teams' rookie lists at the end of 2001) indicated a similar wish.

Probably the most recent to refuse to move after the draft would be before SA teams were in the competition and the Vic `drafted' players who didn't intend moving.

Didn't Steven Schwerdt refuse to come to West Coast?

Did the Jarman brothers move to Brisbane as they were chosen in the 1989 Pre Draft?

Didnt Stephen Pitt a few years ago get drafted by the Bulldogs or someone like that and refused to go over and played the year in the SANFL?

Yeah, i think the Snake went over a year later, pretty sure Jason Heatley knocked back a mid season approach from the Roys after he kicked 45(i think) goals the first 6 rds for Subiaco in about 93.Of couse Steven Sims, Richard Anderson and Darren Smith were all high picks who never took the plunge(thanks to the player retention scheme, which the VFL/AFL HATED in Smiths case)

Steve Oliver played a few games for Carlton, then decided he wanted to go back to Bendigo.

He promptly kicked about 20 goals in the next game, and was chased for a while, but ultimately (I think) decided to stay home.

Oliver didn't want to leave Castlemaine lock stock and barrel, not just for football. Carlton was the only club that chased him because they were the only ones who didn't respect his wishes. So I think that's a bad example.

He was never really the same after his Carlton experience (despite that bag of 20).

I can also remember Carlton 'poaching' Tony Lynn from Centrals mid-season in 93, all that trouble for 1 senior game for the Blues that year and it probably cost Lynn a Magarey too.
