View Full Version : Australia v Rest of the World
The Australian side are beating everyone they play & seem unable to find someone to give them a game,so perhaps they should arrange a game versus the rest of the world to be played over 5 days,I've named 2 sides with the idea that the game is being played on a good, fastish pitch that will provide a bit of turn on the last couple of days:-
AUSTRALIA
Slater
Hayden
Langer
Waugh.M
Waugh.S
Ponting
Gilchrist
Warne
Gillespie
Lee
McGrath
REST OF THE WORLD
Saeed Anwar (Pak)
Atherton (Eng)
Kallis (SA)
Lara (WI)
Tendulkar (Ind)
Flower.A (Zim)wk
Cairns (NZ)
Pollock (SA)
Akram (Pak) capt
Donald (SA)
Murillitharam (SL)
So who do you think would win (or would your ROTW side be very different),my ROTW has 5 good fast bowlers the best spinner in the world & a batting line up that could score at over 4 runs an over if the right players got going. But would they be tough enough to take on the aussies & is the batting line up a bit fragile if early wickets fall?

That's a fair World XI you've picked, except I'd have Sanath Jayasuriya instead of Michael Atherton. Wasim Akram is one of the world's greatest cricketers but his form has also been poor and could be replaced with maybe Lance Klusener.
The World XI would probably win, but it certainly wouldn't be as easy as the way the Aussies have demolished their opponents lately.

WCE2000, I agree except for Walsh. I know he's the leading test wicket taker but I don't rate him as highly as some other bowlers around. I'd probably play Mushtaq or Wasim Akram or even Darren Gough.
I like Dravid and Anwar as openers although Atherton would be unlucky to miss out.
I'd still back Australia to beat the ROTW side mainly because of the fighting qualities of the side and Steve Waugh's captaincy.

Why wouldn't you agree with Walsh. Excluding the chucker, he took more wickets than any player over the last calendar year, 66 at 18.

I don't think Walsh would be rated in the top ten bowlers the Windies have produced. His performances last year were brilliant but he did bowl a lot of overs and apart from himself and Ambrose there wasn't much else in the attack.
He's got a huge ticker and that's probably been more of a factor than his talent in taking a lot of his wickets. He wouldn't be far away from the ROTW team but he doesn't quite makes my side.

is atherton in good form im a aussie dont here about english cricket
Atherton is in pretty good form. Average nearly 50 for 2000 and was ranked number 7. McGrath, though, should sought him out.
