View Full Version : Big Footy Cricket League?

WCE2000

After the success that has been generated from the Football League, Is there any interest in doing a cricket league run in a similar fashion.

I would wait for a while, but i downloaded a one-day cricket simulator, which is very good. Has player averages, aggresion, player morale, pretty much everything.

There are 1 of 2 ways i can do that league:

1. On the game there a 16 players in 12 squads. So i could place the 192 players into a draft and 10 managers could pick their sides (this means there would be 32 players not picked in a squad). The reason why only 10 managers could play is because the way the simulator makes the draw, it only allows for 10 teams).

2. I could use people on BigFooty, however, the problems doing it this way are:
* Say for intance, I may give Mags a batting average of 40, while i might only give Dan24 an average of 30, therefore making Mags the better player. This could be seen as bias.
* The other is the because the wouldn't be as many people want to be involved in a cricket league, there may only be enough interest for a 4 team competition.

If there is enough interest i would do it, it would be up to the people involved as to which way i could run the competition.

And i wont be able to run the league for about 4 months, at least till the Big Footy Football League finishes. And i also have to buy the simulator, which is only 20 bucks so its no big deal, because i only have the demo at the moment.

Its called Howzat! One Day International Cricket. You can download a demo for free. go to www.net.nz/howzat (http://www.net.nz/howzat)

To get the full version you need to pay 30 dollars.

Its good to see interest in it. But would you rather do it the first way or the second way.

Yep ill be in it as well. Someone mentioned bias when creating players. How about having a certain number of credits u can use to create ur player. For example, u could put some of your credits in batting, fielding and bowling if you want to be an allrounder. Anyway i think u all get the gist of what im saying......i hope. http://www.bigfooty.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

See these are the people who are entering:
Mags, Bluey, Joshem, Darky, Nick the Pie Man, QT, GoEagles, ptw, Dipper, Bubbalisous and Visro.
Unless ive forgetton how to count thats 11, so when we get 20 i'll cut it off there and run 2 cups.

The way that i will run the thing is:
there will be a draft consisting of 189 players.
We will have to organize a common meeting time so everyone is online, then the 10 managers pick squads of 16.
Here is the list of the 189 players that are on the game databse:

Australia: A.C.Gilchrist, M.E.Waugh, R.T.Ponting, M.L.Hayden, S.R.Waugh, D.R.Martyn, M.G.Bevan, A.Symonds, S.Lee, I.J.Harvey, S.K.Warne, D.W.Fleming, B.Lee, S.C.G.MacGill, A.C.Dale, G.D.McGrath.

India: S.R.Tendulkar, S.C.Ganguly, R.Dravid, A.Jadeja, V.V.S.Laxman, M.Azharuddin, M.Kaif, R.R.Singh, A.Kumble, S.B.Joshi, N.Chopra, A.Agarkar, S.Sriram, S.S.Karim, J.Srinath, T.Kumaran.

Kenya: K.O.Otieno, R.D.Shah, F.Otieno, M.O.Odumbe, S.O.Tikolo, A.Vadher, D.N.Chudasama, H.S.Modi, T.M.Odoyo, T.Suji, M.A.Suji, J.O.Angara, J.K.Kamande, P.Ochieng, P.Batel, M.Sheikh.

Pakistan: Saeed Anwar, Imran Nazir, Mohammed Wasim, Aamir Sohail, Inzaman Ul-Haq, Yousuf Youhana, Azhar Mahmood, Abdur Razzaq, Moin Khan, Younis Khan, Wasim Akram, Saqlain Mustaq, Mohammad Akram, Shoaib Malik, Waqar Younis, Shoaib Ahktar.

Scotland: B.M.W.Patterson, M.J.de G. Allingham, G.Salmond, I.Philip, G.Hamilton, J.E.Brinkley, J.G.Williamson, I.M.Stanger, A.G.Davies, M.Smith, P.D.Steindl, K.L.P.Sheridan, N.R.Dyer, J.A.R.Blain, Asim Butt.

South Africa: G.Kirsten, H.H.Gibbs, A.J.Hall, H.H.Dippenaar, J.H.Kallis, N.D.McKenzie, J.N.Rhodes, D.M.Benkenstein, L.Klusener, S.M.Pollock, M.V.Boucher, P.C.Strydom, N.Boje, M.Hayward, M.Ntini, R.Telemachus.

So obviously player like Bevan, Gilchrist, Tendulkar, Lara will go early while players from Kenya and Bangladesh will be left around and not put in a squad.

I won't start the league until the football competition has ended. As time goes buy i will do a web-site for thing. The good thing about the program i'm using is it creates the scorecard into a webpage automatically for me, and does averages automatically and everything.

Unfortunately, it wont do the team lists of every player and make them into a webpage, so eventually i will do a list which has all the players and the level of skill they have in batting, bowling and fielding so you can work out who you want on your side.

Thats pretty much it for now, i will keep you informed on how i'm going as to setting up and as the footy league draws to a close i'll started working out the draft times and all the boring stuff before we can finally get into the competition.

I mentioned i would be able to run a website which is automatically done by the program.
So i did a 7 match one-day between Australia and New Zealand (they are the only 2 teams available in the demo version). And i did a web-site for the series, which will be the same adress were the Big Footy Cup site will be.
Go to www.geocities.com/bigfootyca (http://www.geocities.com/bigfootyca) to see an example of what it would look like. I will change the background colour, i dont really think the dark green looks that good, but i can't change the colour in the demo version.

There are only 4 spots left now. The reason i can only do 2 leagues is because the bad thing about the program is that there is i cant save a league. It keeps in memory the league that was last used. Seen as though i have 2 computers that enables me to have 2 leagues, one on each computer.

well weve got 20 people who want to play it, so that enough for the moment. if i can find a way to save tournaments then i will open the books for more.

Mobbenfuhrer, i dont think ill be able to have trades and stuff. what will happen is we will do the draft with the 189 international players, and then the 16 players each manager gets is their squad.

The reason why i wont do it like the football league, ie. using bigfooty posters as the players, is because the interest levels wont be high enough, and even if they were, the game is based on averages (where as yours is based on random numbers). i might give one player good averages and another bad, which would be seen as unfiar.

Actually, if anyone else is looking to join up, they can have my spot. I was sort of more interested in simply being one of the players ... no offence intended. I'd like to be drunken spectator, a yobbenfuhrer, if you will!

So if someone else out there wants in, go ahead, have my spot.
