View Full Version : My Reason For Departing

This requires an explanation.

FRED: A gross over-reaction to nothing much.

I find this remark offensive, and I will explain why.

MONG: What I am finding complicated is timelord's logic. (That last bit was a joke, in case I get reported)

Not funny, Mong.

DAVE W: Well I'm sorry if what I said has scared timeload off bigfooty. He is normally a good contributor to the Regional Board. I just found what he was saying in this thread misguided and wrong. So I argued the toss with him - nothing unusual in that. I don't know why he couldn't hack that. In my eyes, he's denigrated himself by his childish behaviour in these last couple of days.

I was NOT scared off. I was offended and no one was doing anything about it or even paying attention to the fact that I was - and am, so I left in protest. I brand the label of "childish behaviour" as discriminatory. What I couldn't hack was the application of complicated mathematical jargon that was not required to explain th SA percentage system.

Now then, here's why I have every right feel the way I do - and Kev already knows about this, however Fred's note has forced me to go public.

I have a disability. It's called Aspergers Syndrome, an Autistic Spectrum Disorder. Where it has affected me in this case is simply a different thought line. What is simple to some is complicated to me - and sometimes vice versa. When I find it hard to get my point across I get very frustrated, especially when I get ignored (hence my accusation of ignorance in my complaint to Kev). That ignorance was also wilful - and therefore rude. The fact that Dave W has labelled a disabled person with "childish behaviour" requires an immediate apology - now that I have come clean.

Now I'm not posting this to make excuses. I'm posting this to make sure you guys know exactly what you have done. I have done nothing wrong - and certainly nothing to warrant the personal attack perpetrated on me by Dave W in his overly complicated efforts to convince me that the SA system is better AND simpler.

My comments were NOT misguided and certainly not wrong - except when I got the calculation wrong to start with (and I admitted that when I realised it by checking the SANFL ladder). I believe in the AFL system, because I see the system as simple. The SANFL requires an extra calculation to get their percentage - the addition of the for and against. And I consider that to be unneccesary because it makes no difference to the ladder no matter what.

This is now up to you guys, especially you Kev (I hope you got my email). I will be noting the responses but not replying for now - until I know that I have been heard and understood. Whether or not you agree with me is immaterial. Understanding is the key. If I have that understanding, then apologies should follow.

If not, then my departure stands firm - and Big Footy.Com will have to live with a label in my eyes (and maybe in the eyes of others like myself) forever. Especially if this thread is deleted.

I apologize.

I obviously had no knowledge of your disability. And to be honest Aspergers Syndrome is not something I know a lot about; I've read/heard a little bit about it on your page and elsewhere. So I'm not fully aware about how it affects you. I didn't think my explainations were overly complicated - with the exception of that one proof - perhaps they were, I'm sorry. I accept some of my remarks were overly crude, for that too I'm sorry.

You come across as an intelligent person, which is why I was so frustrated at being unable to get my point across to you on that particuarly topic. I'm sorry if the manner in which I did this was unfair.

Timelord,

I always find your contributions thought provoking and you certainly do give another perspective to most issues (being an umpire). Whilst I can't say I always agree with your opinion (only rarely), I always respect it.

I do hope you will continue to contribute to BF. Whilst I would understand why, it would be a shame to end a "friendship" with the the rest of the BF community over something as trivial as the way the SANFL calculate their percentage.

Come back Timelord.
I work with a child at school who has Aspbergers. It can be very challenging at times and requires a lot of patience and sometimes you have to put your foot down. On the up side, the reports back from his mother and the Autsim co-ordinator are very positive and i have never felt a job to be so rewarding in the past.
The offenders have apologised to you and honestly speaking they would not have known about your disability and therefore quite easily get frustrated with you. It is not an exscuse for personal attacks however.
I to knew bugger all about Aspbergers until my wife starting caring for such children in daycare. Since then it has opened my eyes and also hepled me in my current job.
In summing up if anyone is still awake, tkae the time to learn about the disorders if you know little about them And Timelord, come back as people who don't understand are not always at fault.

Yeah come on Phil, as you well know we had a slight run in regarding the PAFC but got over it, things like this happen all the time on the boards and most of us are now gathering an understanding of your disability.
I would like to think everyone on the regional board gets along most of the time and could share a beer or 2 (even you Easty).
Hell, you should see what I've been copping on www.footysa.com in recent times, now THAT'S an angry board! lol

Timelord... I definitely know what you are talking about.

I was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome in 1996.

Keep plugging on here Lord... don't leave just yet.

Timelord, I'm sure you've faced bigger hurdles than a misunderstanding on BigFooty. DaveW wasn't to know; we're all aware now. Keep contributing and let's all get on with the game.

Phil, come back mate, we miss you, i'm sure that Dave's and Mong's apoligies are sincere, and it would be a shame if you left over some silly argument over the SANFL.

But anyway, having a fellow aspie around here makes a nice change around here (welcome to the club Raboyle:D ) and all of us here would love for you to reconsider and come back to the Bigfooty fold.
