Murray Football League side, Moama has been quick to deny rumours that they wish to join cross-town rivals Echuca in the Goulburn Valley Football League.

A letter, written by Moama's secretary and sent to GVFL's chief, Eric Bott was leaked to the Shepparton News, contained detailed information in wanting to become the GVFL's 14th club.

The main reasons being Moama's troubles in fielding an Under 14's & Under 17's side when there is a local junior competition on a sunday that doesn't have the travel or the early starts.

Also the challenge in playing against the Murray Bombers, the back to back GVFL premiership winner.

I think that this is a beat-up, i'm sure that Moama's considering moving to the GVFL, but there's no way in hell that the Murray League would allow the Magpies to leave thier comp. without a hell of a fight.

And not only that, Wayde, I would question the area's ability to cope with two top level clubs. The GVFL is a stronger league than the MFL - even though both are major leagues. Therefore, Moama would need more money to be able to compete - and the first club to be hit by that would be United so they will be the first to protest. And the MFL will follow - and for the sake of region balance (although I'm not so sure they take that as seriously as they should) the VCFL would also be telling Moama to stay where they are.

Any idea when the GVFL website will be up and running again?

According to the local rag, they have said any move won't happen for 5-10 years.
