Not taking anything from the Roos, but a few senior players seemed to go AWOL, and others just faded out.
Any theories?

Guessing confidence is the big thing, as soon as things start to go wrong near the end there seems to be a feeling of - oh no it's happening again, and there is definitely a tendency to change the style of play - reverting to old habits.
Johnno seemed to struggle when he moved back (onto the ball??) a few clangers with disposal at crucial times. He seemed to do much better when being one of the marking targets (with Harris) up forward.
The 50 by Kretiuk was a nightmare - question is how long was he dragged for because of that (couldn't tell on the tv), but seemed he was off for a while, and I thought we needed all the experience down back at that stage.
Smith up forward seemed to be an odd move - losing Harris was a blow (was this when Smith went forward?).
By the end we again had a bench of 1 Brown and Harris injured, and Bruton wasn't risked when the game got close (he was slaughtered briefly in the 3rd quarter when things started to go bad) - and I think this might be a factor in the fade out - just not enough people to rotate.
Some thoughts anyway.
I think it's a mental thing. I don't think they believe that they can win. I think Brother Fish sums it up well, when he says the "oh no it's happening again" feeling. As a supporter you get it, the players are only human, so they're bound to get it. Football is just as mental as it is physical sometimes.
The "we can win this" attitude and mentality needs and will come. Very hard to devolop when you've lost the last 9 games, but it will come.
Also, losing our two key forwards at the end of the game didn't help :(

1. Injuries. Brown and Hahn, both important players for us in the first half.
2. They got tired. They kicked a heap of goals in the good bit, they couldn't keep it up the whole time.
3. That got their confidence down, it was a result of the other two.
I don't think they didn't think they could ever win but when we got a bit down, browny and hahn were injured and they were pretty tired, then their confidence went down.
I would have liked to see Croft up forward in the last q.
We fade out because we rely on a lot of small or slight players to play in big man positions. Even though they maybe good players, they aren't physically up to for 100 min. A two man tall (an inexperienced one as well) is not enough for the whole game. Need another across HF. Think our mix of small to talls is 1 tall short. Bruton not up to it yet (but has to play for Bandy), and McGuiness should have played.
North doubled our tackles which also hurt us physically. Gia made 4 tackles, probably each was with his fingers and a number of North players went straight through him. Need to develop his defensive game.
Another reason why we faded we had no targets across HF or FF in the last quarter. We reverted back to our over possession game under pressure.
At times in the last quarter our forward line had combinations of West, Johnson, Smith and Hahn. (Up to 3 at a time) These guys are ball/match winners and are no good to us up forward when the ball is isn't there.
I really think the reason north got more tackles than us is because we slaughtered them at the clearances for a large part of the game.

I hindsight that's exactly why we lost it. Didn't really pick it at the time, but for a better part of the year we were crying for Rohde to play the tall forward with the crumbers. Unfortunatly, when Brown & Harris went off we were left with no option but a small forward, and Bubba just couldn't do it all on his own.
