Or at least the next two years.

I can just about confirm the young gun has re-signed with Essendon.

Will post an article if/when it's posted.

EDIT: Probably won't have any confirmation in the press until morning, however I'm 90% confident on my source. :thumbsu:

EDIT:
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/michael-hurley-gives-gold-shoulder/comments-e6frf9jf-1225861797310The 19-year-old rejected a potential five-year deal worth as much as $600,000 a season - about $3 million - to relocate to the expansion team. He is expected to receive between $300,000 to $350,000 in each of his next two years with the Bombers.http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/michael-hurley-gives-gold-shoulder/comments-e6frf9jf-1225861797310

Reported on the Herald Sun website, excellent news :thumbsu:

Good to see some of the young players showing faith in the group. Also for Hurley to knock back a lucrative deal like the potential GC one on offer it shows how strong a club Essendon are especially despite our lack of on field success in recent times. :thumbsu:

"I think he's a person of enormous character. He wants to play for the Essendon Football Club," his manager Paul Connors said last night.

Asked why Hurley had rejected potential millions, Connors said: "We really do have a wonderful sport and a wonderful culture and Michael loves the culture at Essendon."

My lord the GC will be crap in their first few years! When Ablett turns them down their sole marquee will be Karmichael Hunt! :o

They're said to be chasing Harbrow, Boak, Griffen, S Thompson, Roughead and Brennan!

If he can live up to his potential, his next contract will be close to $600k anyways... I hope. :)

Great news!

Now sign Stanton!

This is great news. My initial thoughts were 'why only give him two years? we could of given him a 3-4 year contract.'
I'm guessing we'll throw a lot more money at him in a couple of years.
It's great to see the boy pick the club over money, speaks volumes of his character! I'm very happy!!!

The life times supply of EFC funded cab vouchers was the deal breaker.

Seriously though, it is great news as this boy will be a star.

On a more worrying note, it seems like the other half of Hurbleton needs to get re-signed and quickly.

I was reading on BB that Gumbleton is uncontracted and a player that those maggots at the Gold Coast may well be after. It makes sense now because the world has seen that Gumby has what it takes.

Fantastic news - good to see the lad rewarding the loyalty shown by the club. :thumbsu:

Only for 2 years though, we need to keep Sheeds grubby mitts off him. :p

is he not contracted?

In any case, with the faith we've shown, there's no ****ing way he'd leave, I'm sure of that

If he wanted to go, he would have gone home you would have thought. It would be ballsy for him to leave after the patience we've shown. Now the spine for the next few years is set. :)

Does this put him out of reach of GWS??

No, GWS get a 2 year window to poach uncontracted players. I imagine Hurley's agent would've suggested 2 years, so that he can again get great leverage negotiating his next deal.

We've stuck by the kid for 3 years at a return of just 5 games. No doubt he'll be keen to repay that faith. Wouldn't be worried at all about Gumby.
