We really need to make the best of a bad situation this year. How young players are getting a lot of ground time which will really assist their development. Due to injury they are being asked to step up and play roles they are not ready for. When we get back Grant, Bandy, Alvey these players will have less pressure on them and will be able to use the experience gained this year in slightly less demanding roles.
I believe their have been subtle changes in the playing style with a longer more direct game plan starting to be implemented. I would like to now see a focus on accountability. i don't mind so much if they lose games when the oppostition kicks only 14 goals and we kick 12. If this can happen for the remainder of the year again this will lead to better things next year. That was what really disappointed me about saturday's game, that we let a team boot 24 goals, it is just too much. Premiership sides are built from the backline.
So if we can pick up a key position player from another club), two good early draft picks (one a key position player) natural development from talls Walsh, Minson and Wight, plus with the experience our players are getting with extended ground time this year our time in the cellar may not be too long.
Finally we must remember that Coach Rohde, Prendegast and Bond are very inexperienced and will also learn much this year. They are making errors due to this inexperience and also they are letting the young players get valuable experience by helping to develop them ie Giansiracusa in tagging roles, Harris as a forward target etc
So it is not as bad as it looks and we may reap the benefits of the hardships this year not too far down the track. i believe you don't really appreciate the good times unless you experience the bad (i mean the players, we all have over many years) The best example of this is Steve Waugh. His fierce competitive nature and fighting qualities came from entering an Australian cricket team that had completely bottomed out.
