With the appointment of Wayne Brittan as ass coach at tigerland it has made a huge difference to Wayne Frawly and the players.
I have no doubt that our skills went AWOL when choco left(look at todays sun).
Bring the boy back as an assistant coach, our skill level will pick up again and it will give our inexperienced coaching staff some help
Plus put pressure on Rhode to perform
I read somewhere that he was not popular with the players?

Jesus Chr.......st
Are we the new Stkilda
I heard the players liked Rhode too
Geez they are showing how much
1 win in Ten Rounds
I don't think it's a skill thing, and i don't think bring back Royal would improve things.
I'm sure if they really wanted to, they could just just the same program that Royal used and go from there, after all, it's not the coach that kicks the ball in the end.
Perhaps Royal's program was much better than what we have now, but as a whole, it doesn't matter who's running it, as long as it's a suprior program.

I think it's time we got over the Royal asst coaching thing. He's gone and there would be no chance of him coming back under the guy who narrowly beat for the gig in the first place.
I'm sure we could use some experience in our asst ranks. But we are stuck with it for now. What I think would be worth a go would be to bring in some ex-senior coaches to take some training sessions and have a talk to players.
Guys like Blight, Northey, Alves who have all experienced the highs and lows but would bring fresh ideas and fresh approach. They could work on team fundamentals or work with individuals. An outside perspective from such knowledgeable people could be invaluable and I doubt it would cost much!

After reading your incredible synopsis of what needs to be done in the other thread, i'd just like to ask, are you busy for the next 11 weeks Doc?

Good idead all
But doc you take the cake
Can you write to Malcom and give him a Dear Sir Letter
Does the club organise much mentoring by the senior players?
Eg West could be a de facto skills coach helping the young guys improve their in and under work, Croft with defensive skills and reading the play etc
Peter Rohde says he consults a lot of outside people for advice, including Gary Lyon and, at first anyway, Terry Wallace (maybe not now...).
Sometimes you can get TOO much advice though and in the end you've just got to go with your own best judgement.
I think Rohde is doing a pretty good job, when you consider he is trying to change the habits of many years.
A few motivational speakers and a sports psychologist wouldn't go astray, but maybe they are already doing this?
Dry Rot, I am sure I read somewhere that the older players do match up with the younger ones for the purposes you mention. I remember Libba taking Browny under his wing. Rohan Smith is regarded as a bit of a guru by the young brigade.

I think the sports psychologist is the key thing.
A good coach can help in this regard, as can senior players, but when it comes down to it a professional is required. Does anyone know if the club work with one?

Dennis Pagan 10 years =laidley 5 wins 1 draw
Rodney Eade 8 years = Paul Roos 6 wins
Terry wallace 6 years =Rhode 1 win
Where do you get your ideas from NaNa Nana land

Herein is the answer to our skill problem. I don't mean to criticise you PC but if you kick the ball on the end you will get only a half distance kick that tumbles a lot and swerves. You really need to make contact with about the bottom third of the ball somewhere between the end and the middle (thats the fat part) preferably with the ball laces out.
Don't thank me, just trying to help.
Unfortunately time committments stop me from becoming a skills coach at the club but I agree with you that Doc should be there.

Come on, ben, have you been watching our game evolve over the last month? Yes, he stuffed up for the first 4 weeks, and yes we are now doing something about it.
Laidley is inhereting a team that has played for 10 years under a GOOD coach. If Rhodes was in charge of North and said to the players, 'I want you to play accountable footy and kick long and direct into the forward area' it wouldnt exactly be a huge stretch for them, would it?
Unfortuantely, Wallace didnt resign soon enough, otherwise Rhodes might have had the luxury of playing 8 games or whatever roos got in '02 and already had the team pulling in the right direction by the start of the season.

Difference is Ben, and it showed in the second half against North is our lack of height and body strength compared to Sydney and North. You can play a certain style of game but if you are kicking long to a midget instead of a Digby Morrell (No world beater but he is tall). Just have a look at our goalkickers each week.
Mark the North loss down to another game we would have won if Chris Grant was playing.
