The synopsis of the brief preview screen at IRON Man 2:

“In 1970 Area 51 was closed down and everything was shipped to an undisclosed location in Ohio”. Then you see a train carrying lots of cargo loads. Cut to a car driving down the road that jumps up on the tracks and heads straight toward the train. Cut to black screen and then the words “From Director J.J. Abrams”. Then back to the train and car colliding into each other, the the train derails, the camera slowly zooms in on one of the tipped over cargo cars of the derailed train, then something is punching on the walls inside the train cart trying to escape. Cut to black screen and then the title ”Super 8“.

Early word was that it was going to tie up with Cloverfield in some way. Abrams has denied this. Being co-produced by Steven Spielberg.

If spielberg is involved it will be some kind of aliens crap

Well since area 51 is mentioned it's sure to be ufo/alien related. For me being a huge fan of Spielbergs work in this area this is a good thing. Too bad he didn't direct as well.

I wish this could've been Cloverfield 2 and not some new collaboration. But I guess this will have potential.

I'm inclined to agree with the previous posters. Wikipedia has it as an upcoming science fiction film, as well.

OK preview. Trying to guess what was inside; maybe it's a smoke monster.

Have to expect something good with Abrams involved.

Two disappointing things:

1. It doesn't use the handheld camera style like Cloverfield.
2. It's not related to Cloverfield in anyway :(.

We need Cloverfield 2 Abrams!

i too have been wondering about the plot / synopsis of SUPER 8, but here are the theories going on the website IMDB

- Godzilla movie ( unlikely)
- A big cat like creature ( crap for sure )
- Jurassic park movie ( unlikely but possible)
- something about rosewell and aliens ( possible )
and the other is some kind of super hero movie, and by the way theres a theory floating around too about this movie being a STREET SHARKS MOVIE.

Here is my theory on the movies plot / synopsis , who has played DESTROY ALL HUMANS 1 and 2 on XBOX , i think it maybe a movie on that , cause there is photos of the set and it looks like it could be ?

Trailer looks like 'Goonies V Aliens'.

A return to his earlier child based films.

Looks good. Go JJ!

considering that cloverfield was a steaming pile of shit you would want to hope this one is better.
from the looks of the trailer it seems as if it will be more obscure junk, what would be interesting though is this creature thing attacking against 1970's weaponary. But he prob won't do that knowing the kinds of things he makes.

Saw this today but in reality I first saw this when E.T. phoned home or maybe parts of Close encounters.

Its good. DO stay to watch the credits - well worth it.

Don't worry ODN you can watch this with your 15 yo daughter, no dicks etc.

Film centers around 5 kids making a movie in an Ohio town and what did they film when a train crash happens at the towns train station? (Ok thats in the shorts so giving nothing away there)

Cast is good. Joel Courtney and Elle Fanning the two young leads are excellent.

Noah Emmerich again plays that "trust me I'm really your friend" type role that he played in The Truman Show, just that he's a Colonel in the U.S. Air Force now.

Ron Eldard who plays Elle's dad, the look of his character is just brilliant, really well done with side burns and just the look.

The fat kids family scenes are really well done and chaotic, loved it.

The budget must have been huge. Pity that wasted a lot of that on blowing things up. The train crash in particular. Yawn. Seen it sooooo many times before...crash, boom, bang BOOM, more BOOM, bigger BOOM, massive BOOM and then, hand on heart, the terror, the young hero sees the carriage marked "explosives" is about to "explode" - No, you say..the drama, the kid ducks, BBBBAAAAANNNNGGGG goes the railway truck in a million pieces...and guess what our little hero survives with nothing more than dirt on his face. See miracles do happen...yawn

A good rework of an old favorite. Dont worry, if you dont see it, you've seen it.

Seen this today. Was expecting it to be really good but was let down by the story a bit.

Special effects as mentioned were awesome. Very nice. But without spoiling anything I was just let down by the ending...not sure how else I was expecting it to end but I just left the theater thinking "Meh".

2.5/5 stars.

Thought I had downloaded the wrong movie after watching 20 minutes but before I knew it JJ Abrams special effects were happening in front of me. Really liked the movie to be honest, wouldn't be rushing to see it but definetly get around to doing so at some time.

Reminded me of Goonies a bit. Ending was very ET-esque.

Saw this one yesterday. Thought it was pretty good apart from the way it ended. The credits at the end were funny though.

7/10

A fairly enjoyable way to pass a couple of hours without having to think about what you're watching. Special effects were very good, the interplay between the children was nicely done, it's just too bad that the actual plot was paper thin. It's fairly obvious from almost the first reel that this is "ET" for the 21st century.
