View Full Version : Roast Staging

Something that really came to my attention during todays game, more so than before, has been the staging for free kicks from our players. While most players went in hard, and played uncomprimising footy for the majority of the match, others went for the easy way out and played for the free. It frustrates me no end, when a player refuses to just put his head down and do the hard work to clear the ball. In comparison to the Port team today, only that tool Motlop (and he is one of the worst offenders) refused to do the hard work and played for frees.

Stanton - Just so obvious throughout the game. When on a wing in a one-on-one, just borrows his head into the body of an opposition player. The one where he got done for holding the ball in the last I think it was, REALLY hurt us.

Davey - Over-plays high contact, which I understand for a lot of it, it is high. But the over-reacting is sometimes disgusting to see on replay.

These two are the worst culprits. In my opinion Monfries has really addressed this and is much better for it. Other examples throughout the game I can think of are Hille leading in the forward 50 allowing himself to be pushed out of a contest trying to get the free. Winderlich tried the burrow a few times.

These incidents stay in the mind of the umps, they might give one, but as the game progresses, they catch on, and as a result there are times where the free kick is there, but they neglect to pay it (The coathanger on Winderlich for example).

Not sure how much staging there was, but there was a heap of times you guys ducked your head under and just charged into a tackle.

Not once did it come off as anything more than a throw up, or once or twice a holding the ball decision.

Keep your head up, and do something with the ball.

Though I guess some weeks you might be lucky to get a few high contact calls.

Lonergan was another, was a couple of times when he staged and didn't get it, and Port came away with the ball. Was very disappointing.

It's not entirely the end result that frustrates me, it's the integrity of our team and players. It may only result in a throw up when they burrow their head, but it makes me cringe. They could have focused on taking contact and looking for an offload, it's the wrong mentality when taking contact in my opinion.

I don't want cheap free kicks given to players not playing the game. I only want the ump to get involved when their is a legitimate reason to intervene. Otherwise, I JUST WANT TO WATCH FOOTY...

Monfries has addressed this? Does this assessment include the 3 or 4 times he threw the head back today? Serial offender.

I know that Essendon arent the only club that does it, but glad to see that you guys are finally realising the magnitude of the dirty diving and staging tactics players like Alwyn Davey, Angus 'More frees', and the Master of them all Matthew Lloyd have been getting away with for years....

Haha liked what you did there;)

Monfries actually kept his feet in a lot of contests yesterday. It was highly unusual. I think he dropped his knees once. But not to worry, Davey and Lonergan and Stanton to an extent (ducking his head) made up for it.

Davey seriously disgusts me. If he gets a finger on his shoulder he acts like he is being strangled. HTFU Davey... apart from that I thought he had a pretty good game yesterday.

Davey hates taking set shots.

Agree with this. I can handle people ducking into tackles because they will at least cop a hit for a free kick, but what Davey does is just pathetic.

Still he's not in Cornes league yet. What he has done is just plain embarrassing!

why was my last post deleted ? I'm not trolling...You know the rules.

Whether you realise it or not, you're trolling. This was a thread created by our users to criticise our players. You've come onto our board and criticised our players, calling them pathetic.

That's against the rules. Simple.

Easily the worst offender! Makes me cringe.
