I just saw the Channel 7 ad featuring a few of the 7 commentators, Jobe and Tim Watson.

I know it may very well have been just a throwaway line for the purpose of the joke/ad, but Bruce (I think) said to Jobe "So you're on the selection committee; how's that going?" To which Jobe replied "It has it's tough moments" (NB: paraphrasing slightly).

Is this true?

I have heard this as well, not sure if the same source. Makes sense, they do give a lot of responsibility to the captain.

Yep, makes perfect sense. Cassisi is on ours too. I'm pretty sure its a pretty simple role though, as in he just adds his two cents on who he thinks deserves a call up and why.

pretty standard for the club captain of any senior footy club to attend team selection meetings.

the captain is the one who is in the best position to see how his players carry themselves on the ground! damn straight he should be on the selection committee!

I guess the only issue is whether the captain would be willing to drop certain players (senior). Could that cause divisions in a team?

However I think it is still essential the captain has a voice on selection so am okay with it.

Match committee always has the captain sitting on it. Also has a football representative from the board as well (has been Kevin Egan for many years)
