im not abt to go into a typical spray after a loss, but i think 2nite illustrates perfectly y richmond is suffering in the membership stakes, all too familiar all too often we fall short when it matters, we have a serious culture problem at the club that can be simply described as sub-par.........

we dont have the balls to rise under adversity and win one that really matters,..........a win 2nite could have propelled us to not only finals but top 4, gone all gone...............and lets face it north didnt exactly have one of their better games tonite, they still could have blown us away in the 3rd if they hadda kicked straight.........

ah tiges, at least theres the memories eh?

Totally agree.

We are a 100 times better team than the Roos no disrespect, but its dissapointing to always get let down when the heat is turned up......

Gaspar out, season just about up I would of thought...we need the Kangas attitude if we are ever gonna be successful...

A real big let down tonight, im ashamed....

Richmond is where we were three weeks ago, lost 3 straight starting from a game in Perth which was a flogging.

If you watch the entire game again you will notice that Richmond put in hard for the entire match, they were not rolled over or pushed aside easily. The result was less than a kick at the end of the game and it could of easily been a win and things not looking as bad.

Richmond had a dip, they played four quarters and had chances to win. You really can't ask more from your team than that. You can tell how hard they went in, there are alot of sore bodies on both teams, alot of guys struggled to finish the game it was that intense.

Never expect to win, the only expectation you should have is that you expect your players to have a red hot go, and they did that tonight even if they didn't win.

Richmond supporters should be proud of the way they played, the guys busted their guts for their team. if Richmond plays like that every week then they will win far more games than they lose.

I went to see Richmond play the Bulldogs in round 2, Fremantle in round 3, Hawthorn in round 5 and Sydney last week and Richmond today played the best I have seen them. I think very few teams would of beaten them today, our senior players knew it was to be McCartney's last game before the match and they went in harder than I have seen our guys all year, and we just got over the line.

Games like this should never cause you to waver in your support for your club, because the Tigers are a proud club and they have great players in the team and some really good quality players to come in aswell.

All the Tigers have to do is play with the same intensity.

Tas no offence but im not buying it...

Last year same situation we lost to the Roos and it was Mick Martyns emotional game, we lost by a small margin and Danny came out and said he was proud of the boys!?! He was rightfully ridiculed by the media and told thats why our culture sucked, we were happy with a loss....you would never ever see Leigh Matthews say something like that and thats where we have to be, at Brisbanes level.

I was happy Jason made his comeback against us, it was the ultimate test to see how far we have come in a years time, against all the adversity and emotion, and against everyones perseption, yet again we failed, and failure on this day will cost us heavily, for Darren Gaspar is lost for the rest of the year and besides Carlton this week, Brisbane and Adelaide away, we are suddenly sitting 7 - 7 without our number one defender and with a very hard run to come.

If we are to move forward from this 20 year slump we are currently having we need to get rid of the 'Proud loss' stuff and be feared, I thought at the start of the year when we beat Essendon we are on our way to being a feared force, unfortunately I was wrong we are the same old Richmond again....

I will continue to buy my membership, every year, but now I live in hope Richmond will return to become a feared force, unfortunately Hope is the last line of defence for a lost cause....

Ive never been this shattered after a game of football, maybe I just have woke up.

Prove me wrong Richmond.

I think you falling into the same hole as many so called 'experts' in selling the Kangaroos short. Sure we have lost a few players and the senior coach, but a large chunk of our dominant team over the last ten years is still there, particularly in the midfield and we were only one win off being in the top 3 at the end of last year.

I go to alot of Richmond games because I go and watch them with a friend of mine who is a Tigers supporter, and I think they played better against us than they did against Fremantle, Bulldogs or Hawthorn yet everyone has the doom and gloom theory because they lost this game.

You need to put it into perspective, Richmond have improved over the last month. Yes, i do think they are capable of even more improvement, and alot of the fringe players need to step up more, but to be shattered after a 3 point loss is confusing to me.

I think the Tigers have a very hard fortnight after Carlton, I think Brisbane will be harder than Adelaide. I think Adelaide is an average team and if Tigers played like they did against us over there then I give them a chance, but you would have to expect losses in both games.

After that the teams i think you should win include games against Geelong, Bulldogs, Hawthorn, St. Kilda for 11 wins. Teams that Richmond are capable of beating are Collingwood and Essendon.

The two games that look hard to win are Fremantle away and Port at home. Richmond are still capable of winning between 11 and 13 games, and that would be guaranteed finals.

No loss is easy to accept, if we lost I would feel deflated because I would feel that we had chances to win aswell. I guess I am just more at peace because we are rebuilding after a dominant period and do not have the same expectations.

King's deliberate knee into Kane Johnson makes me think the knee that took out Colbert was also deliberate and intended for the Richmond player. Fleming should have dished out what King deserved. Colbert would have thanked him.

. your spot on in a game decided by less than akick there always needs to be a slice of luck go your way ...The red hot free awarded against staff in the middle was pivotal in the dying moments ...when you consider countless others were overlooked however blatant they appeared such as any contest bw watt and richo.....archers elbow to kraks head or gas being crashed into the back in final moments ..

yep there was some luck but we were sh*** out of it all night

We should have won that damn thing with or without the umpires approval on Friday night.

That said, the persistent tendency of the umps to blow for a bounce in those last few minutes - in front of the Tiger goal when we were 3 points down - when the Roos players continually piled in 3 or 4 deep on top of the ball, providing a Kangaroos-only stacks-on-the-mill, was excruciatingly frustrating from where I sat on my lounge room couch.

Such reluctance to award a free kick, of course, is reinforced by the comments and newspaper columns of close-minded broadcasters and journos who seem to be of the opinion that a game should never be decided by a free kick in the last moments, as if that's somehow worse than a game being decided by the non-awarding of a blatant free kick, which seems to happen nearly every bloody week.

I agree with Tas on this point. I left on Friday night feeling pretty positive. I did think we played pretty well and although we lost the game, we weren't beaten. Play with that kind of spirit each week and we will win more than we lose.

I was filthy on this free kick. I understand the new rule:

If you take posession of the ball from a ruck contest AND get tackled fairly AND fail to dispose of the ball legitmately you will get pinged. I am not sure all 3 of those conditions were met for the free kick to be paid.

I didn't like the decision, but to be fair to the umpires that was one thing they were consistent on during the game. Earlier on Simpson did the same thing and got pinged, obviously not at such a crucial stage of the game. Both should have been called play on though. The way the rule was umpired on Friday night it was as though as soon as a player grabbed the ball out of the ruck the umpires wanted to call holding the ball.

Another one that bugs me is when a player is briefly tackled when taking a bounce and is pinged for holding the ball.

This rule was implemented to stop the likes of Kevin Bartlett and Leigh Matthews throwing the ball out in front of them as they were about to be tackled in order to draw the easy "haven't got it" free kick, NOT reward momentary gasps of a footy jumper.

I realize the guy is still in possession of the ball when he bounces it - that was the crux of introducing that rule 20 odd years back. But he should still be required to be pulled away from the ball or held in the tackle for as long as he would if he was holding the thing.
