Well...
Wow.
His last two weeks have been stunning, especially considering he has returned from an ACL injury. Career best form at the moment and that includes his B&F year of 2008... hard to believe that it was around this time last year that people were suggesting we didn't miss him in the side...
Will be a crucial player as the year goes on and Paddy and Hilley will be a fairly formidable ruck duo for most sides to handle as we progress through the year...
Congratulations David. :)

Hille's return to confidence is awesome to watch. Love the way he goes about his business. Leads by example and more deserving of the VC than Welsh IMO.
Last 2 weeks have been AA form.
Easily the most dominant player on the ground. :D:thumbsu:

I think he actually just pipped Jetta, If Leroy had slotted goals instead of his two behinds I would have had him as best on.

The presence of Hille's big body around the ground should not be under sold. If he wasn't takg grabs then he was making it a contest and either following up the crumbing himself or giving advantage and blocking for the smaller types like Jetta or Davey. Jetta was easily the stand out small, but Hille was simply dominant from start to finish. His current form and the roll on effect it has had to the players around him shows that a mistake was made by not giving him the VC.
:thumbsu: to the leadership and performance of the Hille/Watson duo.

He is such a great leader out on the ground. He is always encouraging those around him. Having Hille and Ryder is such a massive advantage for us. Two top rucks who both have the ability to go forward and be dangerous. I don't think anyone is going to take the AA position off Sandilands, but Hille's last two weeks have been enormous.

I think the key to Hille's resurgence is adjusting to more of a 50/50 split with Ryder, which allows Ryder to dominate in the centre and Hille more time up forward. Hille was woeful against Port and there was a clear change in sharing the duties the next week. He just shouldn't be doing more ruckwork than Ryder - they both perform much better doing half/half loads.
I think it would have a lot to do with Ryder as well. Hille can feel more confortable up forward, knowing that in Ryder, we have a 2nd... or 1st ruckmen, who will more then likely win in the middle. Meaning when he is up forward, he can make that his sole responsibility.
When we had Laycock and Hille rucking together, they could never get the balance right, and never seemed to gel. Ryder and Hille seem to be doing this. Having the ability to leave either Ryder or Hille in the ruck for 15-20 minutes at a time, means the other can play significant time up forward and gives them a chance to get confidence, and touch in the forward line.

Best ruck duo in the league?
Nah Cox and NicNat.
Only because ones last name is 'Cox' (lol) and the other is a Fijian with awesome hair.
Hille was huge last night. He played a near pefect big mans game. The opposition might not have been great (although I think Graham has a very big upside) but he imposed himself on the game by throwing his weight around and taking contested marks.
How much better is Sandiland really? His tap work is not giving Fremantle any tangible advantage around stoppages and he isn't taking 10 contested marks around the ground.
I'd have Hille (in current and 2008 form) or Ottens around the ground before Sandilands.

Sandilands is very consistent and can pretty much ruck all game. When Hille's in form like now I prefer him but over the course of a season Sandilands contributes enormously.

Hille's form right now is as good as, if not better than it was in 2008, and that's saying something. If he can keep this up for the rest of the season, AA will be a certainty.
And he is also helped by the fact Ryder is in brilliant form as well.
Which brings me to this question. Do we have the best ruck combo in the league? I'd say we are at least pretty close to it.

I'll stick my hand up i was pretty critical of him earlier in the year and was surprised he was re-signed for 2 years, thought 1 year at a time might be the go but he has turned it around in a big way. Congratulations to him :thumbsu:

That reminds me of an Auskick kid who was a West Coast supporter being interviewed during half-time of a game a while ago. When asked who his favourite player was, he replied "Big Cox", and the interviewer had a bit of a laugh.

Hille probably was the best ruckman in the league at the time he did his knee, although he did have a quiet start to 09. Ryder held our ruck up during most of last season and did a great job imo.
The potential is certainly there if they can keep this form going.

I thought people were being to harsh on him earlier in the season, i mean did they expect him to just return to 2008 form after such a bad injury? Hell i would still have him in the team everyday of the week even on his Port performance.
We are like 13th for hitouts, so let's not get carried away about our rucking duo. His brilliance has been his work around the ground, not so much in the ruck.
Absolutely thrilled with his form though.
have loved watching him around the wing and near the goal square!
hope he keeps it up for the rest of the year

Always good to see commentators taking advantage of his name too. My personal favourite is:
'They love Big Cox down at West Coast! They can't get enough!'
