why oh why has M.Williams not been named.
Why did we recruit him in the first place???
I dont understand ....:thumbsd:

The only person I can see him taking the spot of is Lonergan, but the match committee seem to love having him in the side. I think we'll see M.Williams for Lonergan sometime soon. Especially with guys like Zaharakis, Davey and Jetta locking the ball into the forward line so well of late.

We did name him. He played the first few games of the year. Didn't do enough.

Love the selection, no need to change winning form. NLM, Watson, Myers on rotation in the middle, doggies in for a world of pain. Will be watching Prismall closely though, needs to put in a good performance to keep his spot.

Bit disapointed to see Williams overlooked again, but other than that I'm pretty happy. Good to have NLM back in the side.

Has Williams proved he is willing to inject himself into a game yet?
Obviously not, hence the lack of being added.
Morris would have pooped on his chest anyhow, now he gets to poop on Monfries.

Pfft! And McVeigh, Welsh, Davey, Prismall, Ryder, Lonergan (I could name half the team here) all set the first few games on fire right?
Davey had a spell in the reserves - wasn't a standout for Bendigo by any stretch yet earned a recall - since his inclusion he has been fantastic. Why doesn't Willo get the same chance?
Why was Willo forced to go through Bendigo when returning from injury, yet Lonergan got straight back in the side? Surely he isn't that special...to tell you the truth I had never heard of him before watching you guys this year.
Those who think Willo's time will come - I'm not too sure about that - look at all the players ready for re-selection in the next few weeks.....if Welsh, Remiers etc walks straight back into the side after a week at Bendigo we know this really is a joke.

Has he had the chance? If you are talking about his games for Bendigo I would say he has certainly done enough to show he is more than capable of doing so.
Didn't Willo kick 6 on Brian Lake....I wonder if Lonergan or Monfries could do that?

If any of Lonergan, Monfries, Zaharakis or a tall go down, expect to see Williams get a recall. The problem for him is that he plays a different role to the others that you mentioned.

I believe there would be a reason as to why he is out, and that's his defensive pressure, Monfries is very good at this, Lake at the moment against Willo would get 30+ possessions due to his lack of work ethic.

I don't agree with this. Willo played a very good shut out game on Scarlett in round 1 for you guys - he virtually took Scarlett out of the game and stopped Scarlett's run out of the backline.
Willo may not put the defensive pressure on all of the opposition's backline, like a Davey/Jetta - but he is very good at doing it on his direct opponent.
I guess we will never know ;)

I guess you know him a fair bit better than me, you're probably right, maybe Knights needs to watch some of Willo's tapes mate? :D

Didnt Simon Beaumont kick 8 in one half? Why the hell didnt we draft him!

I know that you have a link with Williams, and I respect your opinion where he is concerned. But it is very biased. No way should Williams be a walk up start (after injury) after his start to the year. I've heard enough excuses.
Having said that, I do hope that he makes it. He should fit into the side better now that the midfield has found their feet.

Stupid comparison. The point is Willo is capable of kicking big bags on quality backmen - he has done it to Scarlett, Lake, Presti and countless others.
The small-medium forward players (Monfries, Zaka, Lonergan) in your current side have not and in my opinion will not ever do this.
Obviously many on this forum find my opinions on Willo biased and ridiculous, that is fine - I also find some of the player hype (Zaharakis, Monfries) on here equally so. I guess we can all agree to disagree
I just wish Willo had taken the Hardwick offer and gone with him to the Tiges, yes he may have been part of a losing side more often than not but atleast he would have had the chance to play regular senior footy rather than finishing his (in my opinion, wonderful) career running around at Bendigo.
That's it from me :thumbsu: It was good while it lasted :p

I agree with you that there is more upside to William's attack, however there is more upside to the defensive games of Jetta, Davey, Monfries and Zaharakis. The defensive pressure is really working at the moment. Our more attacking forwards in Hille, Ryder and Gumbleton (Hurley when forward) are enough IMO.
I don't feel he will finish up at Bendigo, that would be a real shame. If anything, i could see him getting traded at year's end if our young kids step up. Hopefully not though as i would love to see him playing really well for Essendon.
Why was Willo forced to go through Bendigo when returning from injury, yet Lonergan got straight back in the side? Surely he isn't that special...to tell you the truth I had never heard of him before watching you guys this year.
Fail, Lonergan went straight in our side because he was our best player in that Port game against Cornes.
Could Willo do that? can he provide the same pressure Lonergan offers? Can he be versatile and be played in the midfield like Lonergan? Does he follow his man like Lonergan does? Does he tackle and has the same intensity like Lonergan?
At the moment, no.

The reason Williams is out....team balance. It's just about perfect at the moment and something I was crying out for after we played Collingwood. A fit and firing Williams is a best 22 player, but I don't think the best 22 players at Essendon are the same that should be picked in our 22 come game time.
Lonergan is probably not even in our best 25 players at the club but he is playing a role and playing very well.

Honestly can't see him kicking bags against those guys, Knights wanted him for a regular 2 or 3. Still time to deliver though.

You're looking at this from a single player's point of view (understandable, given your connection) not the team point of view.
Our forward 9 recently (rotating through there) are Hurley, Gumbleton, Hille, Ryder, Jetta, Zaharakis, Davey, Monfries, Lonergan.
Which one of those is Williams a like-for-like swap for? If none, why would changing the structure bring about an improvement? The forwardline has been functioning very well recently, and the match committee have (correctly IMO) seen no reason to change it up.
I think its time Bombers36 S'sTFU.. I'm sick of all these threads turning into why Williams isn't in or how he should be in! Great side on paper, lets hope take it up to the doggies tonight :thumbsu:
Lovett-Murray's return is great in terms of hardness and output - it's a shame it took an injury to Melksham to allow to it to happen however.
Good value @ $3.10.

I'm not all confident about winning this game, but that is good value. Worth putting on a bit on.

At the line is even better value, I think the margin is around -30 points. Given form, I would have thought that is a very good bet.

Yeah, I have that strange uber confident feeling that I get when we usually end up upsetting teams, it's almost worth quoting. Yesterday I felt like we were going to be absolutely smashed but today is different for some reason.
I'll say it again I would love to see Houli getting a shot. I would only make one change to the side.
Out - Atko, In - Houli.
There will be a lot of pressure for spots starting next week. Welsh/Reimers will most likely come in.
Personally I have really liked the way we have played without Welsh and NLM the last two weeks. These two tend to look for a short kick as their first option. I feel we have been a lot more attacking without them in the side.
Anyway I love the fact that we have a settled side now. Only one change is GREAT! The team has to get used to playing with the same players week in week out.
Can't wait for tonight!
