Now that the champagne has been cleaned up and the tissue boxes put away, thought I would start a thread highlighting the best of LOST moments.

S03 finale, Jack to Kate at the airport 'We have to go back'. Turned the whole series upside down, and cemented the show as freaking sensational for mine.

Season 2 ep 1, A computer prompt ticks away...a man types in a code and hits execute. Make you're own kind of music plays as the unknown man works out. Boom...the record scratches and he's under attack! Quickly, suit up, turn the lights off, grab the gun...adjust the mirrors to see two men looking down the entrance to a hatch...

Such a great start to a season.

Season 1
When Locke is revealed to be in the wheelchair.
Whe Michael, Walt, Jin and Sawyer sail away on the raft, only to meet Mr. Friendly aka Tom, who takes Walt

Season 2
As ObaMartins already mentioned, the first scene of season 2, when the guy going about cooking his morning routine turned out to be in the hatch. Downtown!
When Michael kills Ana Lucia, and then kills Libby
When Locke locks Eko and Charlie out of the compute room and the countdown goes haywire

Season 3
Similar to season 2's start, the mundane life of Juliet and her book club is revealed to be the home of the Others
When Anthony Cooper pushes Locke out the window
Not Penny's boat
The end of season 3, when all the flashback were revealed to be a flashforward instead.

Simply incredible. It makes you remember just how good a character John Locke was in the early seasons.

This is still my favourite bit. Couldn't find one that embedded, but you get the idea:

Season one: Hurley asking Jin to pee on his foot.
Season two: Eko's dream of Yemi & then pressing John about the question mark before they find the second hatch.
And the bit where Kate crawls through the air ducts.
Season three: Desmond's sudden prescience and his endeavours to keep Charlie alive.
Season four: Locke and Ben in Jacob's cabin and the 'heeeeelp meeee!' moment. (I think it was s4)
Season five: Hurley writing the script to Empire Strikes Back.
+ Hurley's and Miles' conversation about time travel.
Season six: The bit where Jack and Hurley go up to Jacob's lighthouse and Jack totally loses it.

So many exciting moments from Season 1 when it started but for me the top 2 were in season 3. Desmond and Charlie with the boat and the aformentioned Jack and Kate finale.

IGN have done a ranking of every episode.

http://au.tv.ign.com/articles/109/1094268p1.html

Can't say I agree with much of it.

FWIW I rank Through the Looking Glass as the best episode of Lost ahead of The Constant.

Figured this was the place to post this, but I have noticed a lot of people (and critics :p) have listed "The Constant" as perhaps the greatest episode of LOST.

The first time I read this I had to re-read it; I thought the writer was having a laugh, surely.

Watching this episode almost ruined my faith in the entire show. I remember it finishing and thinking "Oh, god, how did we get from Season 1 to here?"

For the record, it ranks in my top-2 of worst episodes ever. The other one is either from season 1 or 2, where Charlie starts hallucinating and at one point, Locke punches him in the water.

your the only person i have ever heard not like the constant, but thy're coming out of the woodworks these days looking to kick the show, so im sure now there will be a few more

personally thought it was the best

considering the smoke monster (which at the time most thought was a dinosaur) is in the pilot episode, the progression to time travel isn't as ludicrous in LOST as it would be on dawsons creek

Kong

No, but for the first few seasons I had a theory that although most things were very far fetched, nothing was impossible.

Obviously seeing the smoke monster threw this theory out somewhat, but even still I thought "there could be some sort of viral mutation."

Anyway, it wasn't necessarily that on its own. It was that to that point, time travel didn't seem to have much to do with the show. Even now with the show finished, I still don't think it had much of a place in the show, other than to perhaps show some back story to a few things like the DHAMA Initiative. Which of course could've been covered in a back story, anyway.

I still don't really get the episode, either. Why was Desmon actually going back and forth? Was it Jacob getting him to realise something? It was before the time flashes, so it didn't really fit in with anything.

It was just the show adding in yet another mystery that didn't really even get looked at. By that I mean the episode itself, not time travel, as I know "how" that started.

I loved the show, and place it in my top-5 shows of all-time. I simply hated that episode.

Loved the constant!!

But The start of the Season 5 finale with Jacob and the Man in black was fantastic.

Jacob's cabin gave me goosebumps.

I loved the episode where Locke and a few others found the house out in the woods (sorry, cannot remember details) and Locke finally beat the computer at Backgammon. Can't even really remember if that entire game/scene/DHARMA footage was significant, but I found it really interesting.

As said, the opening to Season 2 was mindblowing. Well, perhaps not that far, but it was outstanding television.

The pilot was ground-breaking.

Far too many episodes and moments to recall!

It's tough to pick episodes but I think they've got the top 5 more or less spot on. I'd have Through the Looking Glass number one, but there's will do.

On a related note, the Penny/Desmond relationship highlights for me how flat the Jack/Kate one was. Pretty much every coupling on the show (except for Shannon and Sayid) was better than their marquee partnership in Jack and Kate.

Locke's wheelchair reveal is my favourite moment, as well as the hatch lighting up at the end of Deus Ex Machina.

IGN's top 10 are spot on...I would rearrange the order, but very good list...pleased to see Richard's Episode from the last season made number 6. I would have put that higher.

'Across the sea' would have been better had it been a back story across Season 6...the early S06 with the Temple were overplayed IMO, and the Jacob/MIB could have been expanded out at the expense of the Temple...but what happened happened....:)

Kong

Yeah The Temple turned out to be yet another waste of time.

No real point in them going there, other than to show that they could bring people back to life. After killing them.

Cool fight between Dogen and Sayid was worth it, though I feel Dogen's character was majorly under-developed - as was the whole Temple situation. All the nameless Others had no personalities and just seemed to go with the flow.

Those aren't shown in the actual episodes. They are just "extensions". Some are deleted scenes.

I watched them a couple of years ago and didn't think much of them. Would watch again but my net is capped ATM.

(Definitely going with mates on Friday night but we need to play four quarters to have any chance.)
