View Full Version : Anybody watch the fat?
just read how it's in trouble in its new timeslot and , this is the bit that is bugging me, Tony Squires admitted that a lot of sports stars refuse to come on because of one panel member's comments ......which one? whadda say?
Other than being longer and more boring when they don't stick to sport and some dumb things Mikey Robins says anybody notice something?

It's lost it s appeal for many reasons. 3 reasons why i dont watch it anymore .
1. The time-slot is wrong, plain and simple. Put it back to a Monday evening.
2. It's to long. 1 hour was sufficient time to cover all the major sports topics and still kept it pacey and tight .
3. Some of the panelists are not up to it and others have grown stale.

I agree with Mellow, the extra half-hour has diluted the content somewhat. The one hour was right. Remember, this show started off as a 1/2 hour show.
Also, it is up against the "live" footy.

I'll be the second to agree with MellowYellow. It was a ridiculous move to transfer it from Monday night (where it had carved its own very successful niche) to Friday night, putting up against football or rugby (depending on which state you are in), automatically killing off much of its potential audience.
Another problem is that, from the first couple of shows that I saw, it had almost changed from a sports humour show to a combination of Rove/Good News Week. Having musical acts and 'The Sandman' just doesn't interest me.
And as they have to interview guests now, their lame interviewing style is shown up. On the first show they had famed British interviwer Michael Parkinson (potentially a very good subject), but the interview was a waste of time because: a) nobody on the panel is a good interviewer and b)most of them interuppted the flow of the interview with their own jokes, bringing the whole thing to a crashing halt.
I went off the show pretty much from then on. I doubt whether it will be around in 2004.
I watched it all the time on a monday, but only watch bits and pieces on a friday night. It should be cut back to an hour.
Mikey Robbins is a dropkick.Dr Turf is probably the best panellist.
It was an alright show when it went for 30 minutes on a Monday night.
I saw it a few weeks ago on a Friday night and it was shocking, it has turned into Good News Week, what is the deal with having a crap band playing??

Agreed.
hey.... I forgot I put this up.
I agree with you guys. After the first show this year I wrote exactly what you said about it losing something with the extra padding and that "the Monday after" was better for me. (I see they moved TF back) I said they should not make it into a generic ABC comedy show but keep it about sports and don't worry ...the sports nuts will find them. They wrote back quite friendly.
BUt my original query was who do you think is ****ing off the guests?

Sorry I didn't answer the question, but my guess is Mikey. I like the bloke, but he just doesn't know when to stop. He can be funny, but not at the expense of the guest, please, or other panellists.Originally posted by NYMets

yeah that's who I think ... they can get someone who's into sport and funny the Dr Rebecca and Wilco are alright.
The most outrageous is the orignal.... you know I'm right I'm Sam Keckavich

I was under the impression that it was Rebecca Wilson ****ing off some of the guests. She can be a pain I must say.
I didn't think Mikey Robbins was on it often enough to have that much of an impact.
Dale Lewis irritates me no end - who does he think he is? Jay Leno?

She is a mole. One of few TV personalities I geuinely hate.

Opinionated, you may call it. She has a thing about Our Lleyton, that girl. I'm no great fan of his on-court persona, but she does get a little bit aggro about the issue.
Yep, she could be the one.Originally posted by Dippers Donuts

DO you think it's her do you? - I took a while to get used to her, esp. since she worked for Murdoch, but after watching lame interviews on Sportsworld etc.... i have to admit she watches her games and knows a bit and has a bloody opinion and sticks to it. I wouldn't say she was paticularily obnoxious. I seen one guest give Mikey the old skank eye but can't remember who. The runners etc are mostly pretty boring - monegetti's the best of that lot.
If I'm home I get up and get a drink during the sandman and the bands so in that way it's useful. BUt should be cut down.
The Fat is changing time slots in a few weeks. It will be on tuesday nights at 10pm,and will be on for 45 minutes.
I think Tuesday week it begins. It's still on this friday as normal.

As for bloody Sandman and his 'guest in a bag' - that is pathetic!
Cringe worthy tv at its worst. He simply aint funny and nor is his silly sidekick Flacco. Their 15 minutes of fame was up years ago.
A panellist I really like is that born again rugby league celibate bloke - Jason Somethingorother. Very funny in an understated; ironic sort of way. Doesn't mind taking the **** out of himself.
